INJURY CHECK: Steven Jackson sat out the afternoon workout with pain in his right knee. Martz said the injury for Jackson is from a past problem with the knee combined with the number of repetitions he’s taken. Kevin Curtis missed practices for the second straight day with shin splints. Cameron Cleeland and Robert Cromartie appeared closer to recovering from hamstring injuries, for they ran sprints and looked more active than they have in weeks. Erik Jensen (knee) also sat out again.

GORDON RETURNS: Running back Lamar Gordon returned to Macomb after surgery on his ankle that repaired a chip that had bothered him for most of his young career. Gordon had a solid start to his career before the injury, but the possibility of what he could do with total health excites Martz.

Martz said he felt bad about past criticisms of Gordon’s toughness and credited Gordon for his toughness to play through the nagging injuries. “I’m excited,” Martz said. “Look back at what he’s done with that bad ankle, we all got excited about him with that bad ankle. He might be pretty good without the bad ankle.”

Tom, anything on Robert Gallery? ESPN was reporting Monday night that he went down in severe pain at practice Monday. That could be a severe blow to Oakland.

Gallery is fine...day-to-day

NAPA, Calif. -- Offensive lineman Robert Gallery, the Oakland Raiders' top draft pick chosen No. 2 overall, went down with a hyperextended right elbow injury during practice Monday.

A source close to Gallery told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the rookie didn't break or dislocate his right elbow. MRI and X-rays taken on the injured elbow were negative. Doctors say the injury is merely a sprain.

While Gallery might be held out of practice for a day or two, he will be listed as "day-to-day," Mortensen reports.

Trainer Rod Martin rushed to his side and Gallery yelled in pain, holding his right elbow.

"Rod felt pretty good about it, but we'll see," Turner said.

Gallery was participating in a half-line blocking drill when he got hurt. He was working with the second team line, but he's expected to be the starting left tackle this season.

Gallery didn't start in the Raiders' 33-30 exhibition win over the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, but he played with the first team.

Also Monday, rookie receiver Carlos Francis -- who scored two TDs in the exhibition game -- hurt his left hamstring when he sprinted to try for a pass from Kerry Collins that was three yards overthrown.

"We expect him to be OK," Turner said

average pick #43 (and falling) in the ESPN drafts. Not exactly value-based drafting

Thanks, JP. As a Saints fan, I'm interested to see Aaron Brooks play this week against Green Bay and pray Stallworth doesn't go lame.

Griffin has looked good in the first two preseason games and considering Anderson is #2 and Hearst is #3 on the depth chart, he'll probably stay the #1. Not that much of a reach in my opinion considering they play in a division that can't stop the run.
