What's so great about drafting after the season has already started? So you can be in Vegas the next morning to watch the Sunday games? I don't get it. I drafted in the WCOFF this year, and I couldn't get a flight out until the next day. So where was I during the exciting Week 1 games? On a friggin' plane back home. My other option? To spend another $300 to stay an additional night and come back on Monday. No thanks.
In fact, I think the whole idea is weak and helps prop up inferior Owners. Look how many Owners drafted Charlie Batch due to his Week 1 performance with a clear plan to drop him in Week 2. It made me sick to see it. Any draft that is tarnished by allowing Owners to draft when they already know some key performances SUCKS in my opinion.
Don't look for the NFFC to change anything in response to this WCOFF fiasco. The NFFC has a different identity for a reason. If you like 12-teamers that draft after the season has already started, then stick with the WCOFF instead of trying to change the NFFC.

Unbelievable how WCOFF handled the situation and very honorable how Tom and Greg have decided not to post here. We all know that Greg and Tom would have handled it properly. Everyone feels the same about the NFFC and pretty much we're a small family looking to get bigger. If nothing we will grab more owners from the WCOFF and increase our contest while those owners not jumping ship from WCOFF will continue to deal with a deceptive contest.Bigger doesn't always mean better !!!

Really? How do you know? What's correct? And before you say anything realize that I don't think wcoff handled it correctly but that's just my opinion. And this is not a shot at Greg or Tom as I think they do a great job.
How do you know it would have been handled differently here? What if 90% of the teams already had their bids in? Should all the bids be rolled back? "Correct" is in the eye of the beholder.
I feel sorry for Hard Heads and anyone in his position, but there would be just as many people, and maybe more, screaming if it went the other way. Everyone has a vested interest in how this decision went down, and the real problem with the whole thing was the lack of a response in a timely manner. Well, that and the stupid poll.
In any case, I think next year you will see both events bigger than they were this year. Owners will decide if they are getting their money's worth and make decisions accordingly. I think too many of you see this as an either/or proposition but I don't. NFFC will always have it's hard core supporters, as will WCOFF. As for my partner and I, we'll still be at both.

Lance,
In 2006, WCOFF had 840 teams sign up for their Main event.
In 2007, do you see this figure increasing, decreasing or relatively staying unchanged after todays saga ? WCOFF will at a minimum stay the same, but will lose many long time owners. However, I'd be suprised if the NFFC doesn't at a minimum double the number of teams due to the influx of former WCOFF team owners
Like I mentioned before, Greg should bump NFFC top prize 50% to $150,000 and shoot for 490 teams.
It would be nice to clear 6 figures after taxes with a new prize stucture of 150k.
Also, WCOFF 200k compared to NFFC @ 150k would swing the masses to NFFC because 840 people going for 200k compared to 490 going for 150 is a big incentive for the fantasy player trying to win a little less $ but with a much smaller playing field.
I think this is a GREAT idea!!!!

Lance - I find it just as appaling that I have to come to an NFFC message board to comment on the WCOFF SNAFU today, as this is the only place where I think my post won't be deleted by the message board administrators. "All the responses are gone because the only response that matters is mine."
Remember that one? That was Lenny's response to why he removed all the posts regarding the server crash a few weeks back.
Like we're really going to forget about this one.
Lenny really needs a SERIOUS lesson in "customer service".
Maybe he can "shadow" Greg and Tom next year to see how it is done RIGHT??

Again, it doesn't matter anymore, and I didn't agree with the way it was handled. Having said all that, I'll be back. Do you trust Lenny and Emil to make the right decision next time?
I was thinking about your question some more and other than the fact that their decision is what it is (wrong in some eyes, right in others) yes, I trust them. I thought back to year one when they started their event, and all the questions people had about sending in that much money to something that had never been done before. Who were these guys and was it all a scam.
They said they were going to pay out the 200k even if they didn't sell out and they did. Everyone had their winnings right away, something I wasn't used to having dealt with CDM in the past.
Look at the other high stakes leagues that fell by the wayside, not living up to their promises. I'm trying to think of one time that they said something that didn't happen and I can't remember any.
Customer service? Yeah, it's been a huge problem. So much so that people keep signing up to experience it themselves.
Yes, Lenny can be hard to get along with. So what? It's his business and he can run it the way he sees fit. I understand that may not be for everyone. As for me, I guess I'll keep on trusting them until they give me a reason not to.

Well, I guess I'll finally comment on this situation as I don't want anyone to think I'm out of touch here. First of all, I think it's a shame what happened because it doesn't help the high-stakes market at all. I have great respect for Lenny and Emil and anything that goes bad over there can possibly hurt my area of the market, too. We don't root against each other, we both just try to grow the high-stakes market together. So I feel terrible about what happened over there.
I will agree with KOQ that yesterday's events needed to be handled better. I know exactly what I would have done and it certainly wouldn't have involved a STATS person making the first post for us. There were many options that could have been made right away and still kept the peace. I know exactly what we would have done by 8:15 and explained it to everyone. But I wasn't in the fire yesterday, so it's not fair for me to say anything critical 24 hours after the fact.
The bottom line is that your back-end support system is as important as the guys at the front line who recruit the participants. Tom and I are no good if STATS doesn't run a good contest for us through the year. They have been extremely reliable and they make us look good. Sure, we all wish they could do more or help us in certain ways, but they have helped the NFBC and NFFC become trustworthy games.
None of this is good for anyone right now. But the key is to be honest with your customers, make firm decisions and always keep the integrity of the contest intact. I hope this season finishes better for them.

Well count me in for 2007 Greg!
I was one of the minority on WCOFF I guess that saw the wrong in how things were decided and handled, but god forbid Lenny ever own up to such a gross mistake in judgement! I will register and be on the mailing list to hopefully get a spot next year. It appears at least one difference is the way things are run here with a little bit of class and integrity. Kudos to you and look forward to joining on.

Just something to think about............. In this day and age where we are all so DEPENDENT on the COMPUTER, what is the best way to handle Computer Mishaps...? I think we would all agree that these things will happen time to time, the question is what should be the protocol for dealing with it when it Dose. Since we live in a Democracy, I always felt putting things to a vote, was the best way. IMHO.
