Discussion On Ultimate Leagues

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Aug 11, 2005 4:59 am

I created this separate thread because there were a few things to discuss about our debut NFFC Ultimate League on Sunday, Sept. 4th. We currently have 14 teams for that event and I've decided not to pick draft spots yet because there might be a few more folks interested in joining. It will be tough to fill a second league, but I wanted to wait and see. Hell, even a 12-team second league would work.

Anyway, I have been contacted by two more NFFC veterans who are interested in joining the Ultimate League. If anyone else has an interest, contact me via e-mail ([email protected]) or let me know here. Can we spring another Ultimate League together in the next 2+ weeks?

16 teams??? Wow, that would be wild. Maybe too wild, right?

Anyway, hold tight for a bit on this and we'll see what the next week brings.

I also took Gordon's post from another thread and have pasted it here. I've already heard from a few folks who are against the bidding for draft slots in the Ultimate League, so I doubt it will fly. But this is as good a spot as any for the debate on the subject. Gordon's thoughts below:

greg - as you see on the baseball thread, folks want the blind bidding process for draft slots. why not when you confirm everyones spot in the NFFC Ult, ask them if they'd be willing to use blind bidding on draft slots this year in the NFFC? i realize it wasn't marketed that way, but if everyone agreed to it, what's holding us back?

Incidentally, what about 'open' bidding for draft slots... auction style... right before the draft begins.

Dave i second that. having the 16th pick would suck, unless you were compensated by other owners having less FA$.

other than that, i'm against the 16 team format, as we would likely get stuck with the 16th pick.

Gordon with the sheer genius and street smarts you bring to the table I'm sure you could win with the 100th pick in a 100 team league.

Your only superior is that lovable and modest NNOY fellow who I am certain could win it all while only starting 4 players....he is just that special.

This is way above me. $5000 on the line and the size of the league or how draft spots are picked is not set? You guys have bigger ones than I'll ever have.

Greg, I sent in an e-mail... I would like to add my name (if you already haven't) to the list as potential team owner #15 or #16 if you add 2 more teams.

I understand someone will likely balk at changing the format from a "written" 14 team league to a 16 team league, so also keep me in mind if there is enough interest for a second 12 or 14 team league (heck; 10 teams for that matter).

I'm cool with using a bidding process for draft positions. I'm going to ask "how" that process would work immediately following this post....

Best regards,

Pete

Bidding for draft position question....

Lets say, for example, I am only interested in draft postions 1, 5, 6 or 14... How do you see me entering a "blind bid"?

Are we thinking about submitting one dollar value and then assigning slot 1 to the highest, 2 to the next highest... etc, all the way to 14 with the lowest? If so, I can say for certain that I would bid more for slot 14 than I would for 13 or 12. So that would not work for me.

Thoughts?

Thanks - Pete
