Regarding Defensive scoring:
I would like you to consider the following:
3 points for a shutout through the 1st quarter.
6 points for a shutout through the 1st half.
9 points for a shutout through the 3rd quarter.
12 points for a shutout.
Once the opposing team scores:
3 points for each subsequent shutout quarter.
The remainder of the scoring could remain the same (minus the total points which is replaced by the above). This way the defensive points would accumulate as opposed to decrease as the game progresses and teams would be rewarded for a strong defensive game regardless what happens in slop time.

I dont like the K - DEF combined idea. It just makes no sense to me. FG's are part of offense. How can you rank your Def and factor in the kicking game. Its hard enough to rank DEF and kicker - this would make that combined position even more of a fluke.

Good stuff as always Rob!
The data for QB's is barely a difference. So whatever -2 or -1.....won't make a difference in my rankings.
As for RB's, I would just like to see 1 PPR simply for the fact that it makes it simple.....nothing more, nothing less.

My thoughts on the K-D/ST situation is they are both kinda fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants cats. My main thought on the suggestion is I'd rather put more emphasis on the skill position players than the K. I like the idea of the K getting only 3 pts. per FG and then tie him into the D/ST. FG's may be an offensive stat, but they are also part of the special teams of the game. There could have been some good advantages from drafting the Niner D/ST this year, if Akers was part of the D/ST. I definitely think players would look at it a lot different on draft day if they were tied together.

I wish Greg's 1st survey question was if 1/2 PPR for RBs should be across the board instead of the full pt. 1/2 PPR was 1 of the things that really drew me to the 1st Primetime 3 years ago after doing wcoff super satellite before that..felt it was much more fair and reasonable. RB like darren sproles has almost a 3 pt disparity in full ppr and 1/2...that is a substantial difference and makes total sense. A bunch of dumpoffs to screen pass specialists shouldn't help boost a 3rd down type back to equal or even surpass workhorse feature backs.

I would say it's necessary to keep kickers and DST separate simply because a good defense doesn't necessarily equate to a good kicker. A poor defense would take points away from a productive kicker if they were lumped together as a whole.
As far as giving individual points for punt/kickoff returns, using Devin Hester as an example, it would be wasting a slot by playing him in hopes he runs one back for a touchdown. His production as a wide receiver is relatively low. There are very few returners who are starters. You have Hester, DeSean Jackson, Dez Bryant, and a handful of others. Personally, I wouldn't waste a spot on a possible WR3 who returns punts in hopes he takes one back, instead, I'd rather play a WR2 who has greater production potential over the course of the entire game.
On the other hand, points could be awarded for kick return/punt return yardage.
If you have the Bears DST and Hester takes one for 100 yds, award 6 points for the TD plus the yardage for the defense as a whole, breaking it down into points within a range:
100 yds = 4 pts
101 - 150 = 6pts
151 - 200 = 8 pts
100 return yards would be a good base to achieve before awarding points.
Right now, other than 6 pts for a TD, there is no point system for special teams performance, so this idea could add a few more points without going overboard.

I really hope that we keep everything pretty much the same except PPR across the board.

I know we are just brain storming here. As I have been thinking about it, I have to admit I do put thought into my kicker decisions. Week to week I am looking at matchups, weather, etc when determining a kicker. Janikowski owners will obviously say all kickers are not created equal.

i personally would like to see def scoring go down. most on here seem to want to take almost all luck out of the games.....well making def's irrelevant would help with that. picking a def each week along with a kicker is the hardest thing to do and most luckiest. most of the time the best def for the week is on the waiver wire.
you shouldn't win a week because you picked up the bills def, because yours was on a bye, and they scored you 25 pts
