You can't go '4-0' this week with record, so you're just as likely (if not more so) to quit when your team starts off 3-7 than if you get 200 pts. off the lead dog.
No?

No?Yes.
That said, when teams have a chance to make the playoffs based on W/L **and** points, there will be far more teams eligible for the Week 14-16 extravaganza than in a system based solely on points.
Entering the final two weeks, does anyone know the percentage of teams that were still alive for a postseason berth?
As I have stated before, the current system works--so long as the loopholes are filled (Top 10% scorers automatically make the playoffs).

Dave
that's one of the things we are working on at Gekko Industries. imagine the rush you would have for three weeks!!! time to get on blood pressure meds. this will be included in the season ending gekko newsletter.
Why would we want MORE people eligible for the playoffs to solve a problem that doesn't need to exist? I absolutely LOVE the fact that only 32 teams are going to go for the $100k this year. Why make that number 36 or 41? Why not just take everyone to the playoffs if it's not going to be based on championship teams ONLY ?
I don't want an artificial 'catch all' system that cleans up the mess after the initial flaws. Keep the championship field very narrow (top 2 in each league is okay). Should be a top 10 team that doesn't make the playoffs leading the consolation bowl, I guess?

Dave [/qb]
I like this idea too; makes sense having a playoff for lge concurrent with overall championship. What is the rationale for lge champ being crowned after only 13 wks?
I agree, so then we both clearly agree that the wrong methodology is used to select the Championship teams... or said differently - the wrong criteria is being used to select the league champs. Having said that, if it's H2H that matters in any significant way, then being #2 overall in points is not important after 13 weeks.
And yet... the H2H matchup is a 'must' with FFL because 'it's always been that way.'
So, reap what is sown or fix the INITIAL problem. Slapping duct tape on the problem by sweeping extra teams into the champ bracket sucks because it dilutes the prize flight with excess teams.
Again, I ask, if it's not a hardcap of 2 teams per league, why not just let everyone in the championship bracket from top to bottom and award places 1-8 then randomly award other teams for 'best week 15', etc.
The other point I would make is that the 'original FFL' games were never designed to handle multiple league overall prize structures, so using the 'original formats' seems outdated, antiquated and seriously flawed.

The morons didn't even bother with FA picks so the top 6 teams got all the best FA after having the best drafted teams as well. What if in this ONE league, 4 of those 6 teams were in the top 10% and even beyond that, were so loaded that they took places 1-4 in the overall contest. Wouldn't that be grand?
