I now have seen 4 different people say they think we at least should 'discuss' the issue of how our defense/special teams are hurt by their offense turning it over in a way that results in a TD when the defense/special teams was not even on the field.
I understand that an offense can impact our defense by turning it over in scoring position and such. But at least the defense comes on the field and has a say in if it is a TD or FG or maybe even a turnover. The one thing that seems easy to me to adjust would make it "points scored VS defense/special teams" and leave everything else the same. It just eliminates the totally random and irritating circumstance where your defense is playing a great game and their offense gives up a score that takes away your fantasy points when your defense was on the sideline.
I know we cannot eliminate all quirky circumstances that can impact fantays scoring, but it seems to me that we could address this one and I am not the only one who has brought it up. Not saying we should immediately make any change, but I think we should at least be able to discuss the topic right?

Something stinks for me, Greg, with the "defensive" points when Jacksonville can hold Tennessee to 126 total yards and 3 points and get screwed because the offense gave up 21. I realize this is more the exception than the rule but if you are going to reward "defenses" for their efforts, defensive td's against need to be deleted somehow from the equation or there need to be "yardage" points as suggested earlier.
As for the other ideas, I see them all as being excellent positives for moving the league forward. You've done an excellent job of weeding through everyone's "pet peeve" bs and pushing all of the right buttons.

Will this be a problem for STATS or are they locked into the NFFC scoring system? This league could bring 10 new teams from New Orleans into the NFFC. Rick, I believe Jacksonville's offense held Tennessee to 3 points. They ran something like 34 plays in a row. The time of possession was 44.50 to 15.50. The defense didn't dominate. The offense did in this game.

regarding the defensive scoring topic and how offensive turnover returned for scores that hurt fantasy results for team defense/special teams...
There are all kinds of factors in an NFL game that can lead to a team defense keeping the other team to a low scoring game and ultimately a good "fantasy" scoring game. I personally draft my team defense very much with their offense in mind.
Having said that, the one instance that leaves an unpleasant/unfair/random uncontrollable luck taste in your mouth is when your defense loses fantasy points because the offense gave up a score on a turnover that goes against your defense while it was on the sideline. You can draft your team defense with the strategy that their offense is a ball control offense or their offense is explosive and the defense will often be playing with a lead, or they play in a bad weather region or whatever. But drafting with the idea of trying to predict how often the offense will give up scores on turnovers is too much.

I think we should lessen TD's scored after an offense takes over inside the 5-10 yard line. It's not fair when a player like Brandon Jacobs can rumble in after his D gives him a chance at goal to go! Maybe 3 pts instead of 6, sound good to everyone? Or when my teams punt returner makes it to the 1 yard line, he should get some type of credit for a 70 yard return. Why should the guy who falls forward for the TD be rewarded 6 pts when we all know my special teams unit is the one who did all the work. Or how about when my kicker has a kicked blocked, the snap was good, placement as well and we all could see it was a beautiful kick that would've sailed through the uprights if it weren't for that Julius Peppers jumping in the air to block it. Maybe award half the points the FG would've been worth, I mean we all could see it wasn't the kickers fault. I will think of some other unfair circumstances that should be changed and hopefully some others can chime in so we can make this game as fair as possible. The ball should always bounce my way, regardless.

And something needs to be done about players like Steve Smith whose value greatly decreases when a Chris Weinke type is forced to play. I mean, it's not Steve's fault that Weinke is unable to get him the ball the way Jake does. I've been periodically watching the Saints/Cats game and noticed what a difference Jake makes for Steve. 2 TD's already today. Can't we do something about this???? It's not Steve's fault he's not scoring when the backup comes in.

God,
It actually has been a very good thread. Was hoping the mocking would be done elsewhere. I am among 4 people on this board that I have seen already saying the exact same thing about this specific topic. We are not looking for sudden change to be put into the NFFC but are we not allowed to discuss the topic? I also know about 30 other fantasy football players who have brought up this issue over the years having nothing to do with the NFFC.
This is a valid point/topic. No need to mock it.

ren,
Relax a touch, if you read between the lines GLY is sharing his thoughts on the topic. What seems to be mocking to you is actually an entertaining way of saying, UH - NO.

greg - don't split up the pts against between the offense/defense. let's not make fantasy football too confusing to folks.
Is my "weekend warrior" prep better than your prep?
