Week 2 Thoughts

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Sep 21, 2009 2:23 am

Here's what I got heading into the final game of the week tonight:

Memo to the Titans - see what happens when you get Chris Johnson involved in the passing game?

Oh, did anybody start Chris Johnson and lose this week? I realize there's still one game left to be played but he was off the charts insane yesterday - especially if you're in a league that rewards bonus points for 50-yard plus TDs like mine.

Memo to the Seahawks - you're lucky Frank Gore tweaked his ankle or he might have tore you up for 400 yards.

Matt Schaub looked like Kyle Orton in Week 1 and Dan Marino in Week 2. Crazy game, isn't it?

Speaking of Orton, he has officially destroyed the fantasy value of Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. I have Marshall in a couple of leagues and Royal in the one I care about the most. Neither one will be getting off the bench anytime soon and it's possible they'll stay benched for the remainder of the season. Other than JaMarcus Russell, I don't think there's a worse starting QB in the league than Orton.

And yes, I realize the Broncos are 2-0. Anybody want to take bets on whether they finish with a winning record?

One bright spot I did see for the Broncos was Knowshon Moreno. He looked good against the Browns. He's still in a time share but his role is growing. He's stepped into a flex role and at this rate he'll be a solid RB2 before long.

The Titans are 0-2 and they're in trouble. Their pass defense is putrid right now. Did they even muster up a fight against Schaub yesterday? They're also staring 0-3 in the face with a tough game at the Jets coming up next week.

The Chargers are 1-1 and lucky they play in easily the worst division in the league. So, like last season, they could bounce back if they struggle early. But their defense is in big trouble right now.

On the bright side? Darren Sproles is really good.

I realize Wes Welker is pretty darn valuable for the Patriots, but Tom Brady looked like a guy who didn't trust himself yesterday. The pressure got to him and he left a lot of yards on the field.

Oh, and how about Darrelle Revis? He's shut down Andre Johnson and Randy Moss in the first two weeks. If for some reason you were thinking about starting Justin Gage next week, I have one word for you - Don't.

I think it's safe to say the Packers have some offensive line issues they need to address.

Speaking of the Packers, they're now 5-5 in their last 10 games at Lambeau Field. That's not good for a team that just two seasons ago was on the verge of going back to the Super Bowl.

The Vikings are 2-0 for the first time in four seasons. Just sayin.

This, my friends, is why the Bears traded for Jay Cutler. He's pretty good. There was WAY too much overreaction going on about Cutler after Week 1. Sure, he threw 4 INTs but he also threw for 277 yards and should have had 2 TDs. He was a lot closer to a good game than many people thought.

Two weeks ago we all would have laughed at the idea that Drew Brees could throw 60 touchdown passes this season. Nobody's laughing now.

On the flip slide, Mike Bell suffered a knee injury. That makes four RBs in the past year who have gotten injured for the Saints. What's in the water down there?

How ironic would it be if Reggie Bush was the only healthy RB for the Saints?

I know the Vikings are 2-0 but am I the only one who hasn't been all that impressed with their defense? I expected more given the offensive issues Cleveland and Detroit possess.

Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson. Touchdown. Get used to that.

Willis McGahee is the Steal of the Draft after the first two weeks. Contract years sure are fun, aren't they?

That Matt Ryan kid is pretty smooth. Oh, and Ted Thompson - this is why you trade for Tony Gonzalez when the opportunity presents itself.

If I'm Dick Jauron, I announce today that Fred Jackson is my starting running back and Marshawn Lynch will be the backup when he returns.

I thought the Giants and Cowboys were supposed to have good defenses.

What do you all have to say?

The Big Bad GIANTS running game did nothing and the COWBOYS ran for 250 yards at a 8.7 yards per carry.
The frigging 4 turnovers was just to much to over come.Eli did make some nice passes and their offense line on pass protection was awesome.[that hurt] Tom how do you not mention SUPER MARIO, can this kid play 10 catches ,150 yards , and a td.
THE FREE AGENT PICKUP UP THE YEAR.
Cedric Benson rushes for 140 yards and they beat the PACK.
Did anybody else sit Desean Jackson this week. ouch.
Snake goes for over 200 he's a monster.
Kellen Winslow 2 games 2 td's and big games.
MR. ZERO JENNINGS, ZACH MILLER,JOSH MORGAN,DALLAS D, Lance Moore
Slaton owners scared but im not.
Tomilson is done and im loving every minute of it.
Phil Rivers 444 yards
Vincent Jackson is in for a big year
IM dont agree with Knowshow as Buckhalter and even Hillis gets the score's.
Brent Celek what a steal for owners getting this guy in the 11th or 12th round or later.
ROMO WAKE UP!!!!!!
NFBC (NY) auction league champion!
Bad(ass)Angels

Is it Orton, or is it the Denver offense at this stage of the season? because all in all, Orton's stat day wasn't that bad and Denver is 2-0. I didn't see the game yesterday as I was getting wet watching the Bears take down the world champs.

The Broncos are 2-0 because of one fluke play and the fact they played the Browns (who might have the worst offense in the NFL) in Week 2. They're easily the worst 2-0 team in the league in my opinion.

The curious thing is both Marshall and Royal spent a lot of time on the sidelines yesterday. I can understand it with Marshall - we all know he's not getting along with McDaniels. But Royal being benched (that's the only way I can think to describe it since he wasn't hurt) was a major surprise.

-Does Lance Moore even play on Special Teams?

-Beanie "Slippery Weenie" Wells has set back his opportunities at least 4 weeks with his two fumbles.

-Love the Steelers. Love Ben. Hate IWP.....Indecisive Willie Parker. Addai seems on this same benchward path.

- Got free agent Manningham in 2 leagues Fri night.... and even smart enough to plug him into one lineup.

- Had 3 zeroes on an Auction team----- and won!
Andre Johnson can do that for you. Tenn "D", TE Zack Miller and aforementioned Lanceless Less are the 3 I'm calling out here in the press.

- Nordic Track pitchlady Jillian just might be Cialis' antidote to their "4-hour" issue. Hardbody or not, I would not want to run into her in a dark alley..... or even a semi-dark bedroom.

- Haven't really been a fan of Brad Pitt since "Seven", but he absolutely nails his role in "Basterds".

- Kudos to SNAKE for busting 2 bills in Main/Classic.

ALL THE JARGAN THAT HE WAS GOING TO BE USED BE BLOCKING MORE JUST ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. HE SHOULD STILL HAVE HIS USUAL STATS.
