Jersey Paul, good points. It appears that this partnership lacks benefit for the player except for additional leagues to participate in and maybe some national exposure. I will gladly address this point tomorrow. I received a similar e-mail like this tonight and I felt this needed to be addressed. You're not thinking out of the box if you think there are no benefits by adding a company like NBC Sports.
Here's one example, I obviously didn't lead off with today. NBC Sports works with a soft drink company and a beer company as sponsors of other events they do. They said we should get both involved as sponsors of the live events and work with their regional distributors to sponsor the drinks at each draft. I don't know if we can pull that off, but that's the type of stuff we can't do on our own. They can also call each local TV affiliate and get local TV coverage, something you can't buy in those local markets. I could go on and on, but just think beyond what I already said and think about the unique possibilities this can enhance the live events.
We haven't touched the surface yet. Think BIG.

If this partnership would have decreased costs or improved payouts at the same entry fee then the participant has realized some gain. Most of us are home grown backyard fantasy players that have stepped up to the national level because or organizers like Greg, Tom and Lenny at WCOFF, and they are appreciated. My concern is that 2-3 years down the road this contest may not look anything like it did last year (which was exceptional). If it takes on the usual corporate business model and attitude we may be disappointed. How many times have you heard merging companies claim that "nothing will change" (maybe you no longer work there)? How many of you while growing up as a fantasy player played in the ESPN's, Fox's and CBS's all with some disappointment. Do not get me wrong I am happy for Greg and Tom and I am looking forward to next year especially since Brady and Moss had such a great year and will be drafted too early. I hear you, I'm a little worried myself. Love the family of the NFFC And hope it never changes. I hate the WCOFF way. The only thing that looks good at WCOFF is the BIG Prize.
...the age-old adage "bigger doesn't necessarily mean better" is the first SNAKEimpression here...the mom and pop hardware store on the corner of the block just lost the WHOLE block (including the corner) to Home Depot...happy for TK & Co. but SNAKEsense seethes this as a potential overall negative for the "family feel" experience that the NFFC had been wildly successful in fostering throughout the last four years running now..."selling out"?...hmmm, all here shall soon see, won't they?...SNAKE
You make a lot of dumb posts. "Selling out?" I Seethe a foolish prognosticator in my midst. Foolish reptile indeed.

We'll have to see what the future holds but the great thing about this partnership is we now have the ability to reach places we never could before.
Greg and I have talked for years about the best way to grow our events and we both agreed that we needed a big-name partner at some point. We needed a partner that could be strong in areas where we are not. That type of partnership is the one that has the most potential. And we believe that can happen with us working with NBC Sports going forward.
There are so many reasons to be excited about this. To quote Tom Petty - the future is wide open.

We need to look big picture here folks!
Think of all the new (read possibly dead) money that will be coming into the mix.I also have to think that the bigger this gets, there is a strong possibility of higher payout %. I mean overhead is a relative fixed cost. When we get to 500 teams for the Main, it then becomes reasonable to expect a change in the payouts.
Until then, all the JV has is a dream with a big marketing budget.
Let this season unfold and see where it takes us.
The key is moving the crowds into the online satellite leagues. This viral growth will feed the live events for the future, plus the JV will be able to sell the sponsors on the internet hits and ultimately marketing and sponsorship opportunities. They can't get that buy-in from the sponsors/marketers just yet.
Tom, i can say i am honestly very proud of you guys and happy for your success.. just a very bold thing to do.. and you guys know, the safe move would have been to sit back with your local NFFC family style league and make same money year after year always watching your back with competition.. you guys took a very calculated risk that will come back to you 10 fold or maybe 100 fold..
i see this.> I SEE YOUR LEAGUE TEAMING UP WITH SIRIUS, I see radio spots on the NFL channel on sirius, ads, just so much publicity.. fantasy sports is a billion dollar industry.. you guys are doing the right thing..

It is surprising to see that the jury is still out on a JV that is 9 hours old to the public.
It appears some in the "jury" are ready to offer a verdict before the trial gets started.
