Now you want to cut Orton slack. Interesting.

Week 11 Thoughts
I hate to say anything bad about the Texans, but didn't anyone else think they got what they deserved last night? What in the hell are they doing with Chris Brown in the backfield ahead of Steve Slaton? I think of Chris Brown the same way a scout described Aaron Rouse when the Packers drafted him: "He looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane." The Texans will not win anything with Chris Brown in the backfield ahead of Steve Slaton.
Slaton was still productive last night despite carrying the ball only five times, but he is the home run hitter this offense needs. Yes, he has fumbled this year, but the Texans can win with him. They are not going to win with Chris Brown getting three yards each time he touches the ball.
I like watching the Texans on offense and they fly around on defense. But I think they made a big mistake by souring on Slaton so quickly.
...yes it is interesting indeed...because I honestly don't like he way Favre has held the Packers, Jets and Vikings at bay in addition to having had his ego stroked during these last three years which I feel has tarnished his image as a HOF'er and great QB in the NFL...honestly, before that I had no problem with the kat...GK
With crap like:
Lynch - Hit and Run on pedestrian
Vick - Putting dogs to death
Crabtree - Holding out for stupid money (costing team)
Mason - Retiring as contract strategy
TO - where do I start?
L Johnson - forcing his way off a team mid season.
Cutler - Forcing a trade.
... and you choose to attack a 40 year old QB's indecision for not knowing if he can come back from off season surgery and still play at a high level at 40. Even if it was all an evil plot to play for the Vikings (two years ago) ... doesn't he have that right to control his own career?
You crack me up Glenn.

Do you think that anyone would have kept Favre out of Green Bay after he just led the Packers to an improbably spot in the 2007 NFC Championship Game if he just had said in March he wanted to return? No way. Teddy may have wanted him to retire and didn't show ol' Brett the love he wanted, but there was no way ANYONE could have prevented Favre from returning to the starting QB job after 2007. NOBODY. He was God here.
Now true, the Packers could have done what the Vikings did and catered to whatever he wanted to do in August, which was skip camp and show up for Week 1. But they had a young quarterback in the wings, an option Minnesota didn't have.
I think everyone agrees that Ted Thompson's legacy will always be as the General Manager who ran Favre out of Green Bay. His failure to bring in Randy Moss and other free agents irked Favre to no end and his dull personality I'm sure turned Favre off. TT is the reason Favre chose to retire the first time, I'm sure. But if he really wanted to come back, there was no stopping him if he just hadn't waited until freakin' August to show up on his private plane as the savior. The Packers moved on; as Favre had.
I sure wish we had him in Green and Gold, but there's no turning back. He held all the cards and it was his decision to announce his retirement and then change his mind 4+ months later. It will be fun to see what he can do in the post-season now.

Well Greg, I know you have much more insight on the issue and feelings as well, but you said yourself above "Teddy wanted him to retire". That was uncalled for after the season Favre had. I think it all went downhill from there. On that we can all agree. My friends and I own a few green Bay shares of stock and we wish he was still there. Rodgers we wanted on the Niners anyway

Rodgers we wanted on the Niners anyway Correct, internally the Packers hierarchy probably felt after that NFC Championship game that they couldn't win in the late season games with that old fart at QB. But they were in no position to oust him as QB after the incredible season he just had. So if he wanted to return, there was NO WAY they could have forced him out. It was his job if he wanted it in March or even April before the NFL Draft. But the NFL doesn't wait for anyone.
Favre wanted what he got in Minnesota: The adulation a Hall of Fame QB deserves from management, no training camp and the starting job no matter how good the backup is. He went to the perfect situation in Minnesota, but he has played better than anyone ever imagined. I'm glad he's proving Teddy wrong, but him blaming the Packers entirely for this is ridiculous. I guess his mirror tells him he's the fairest in the land, no matter what reality really says.
Hey, Alex Smith looked good on Sunday. Not Rodgers good, but good.
