Questions For John Hansen: Post Them Here

Post by rkulaski » Tue Aug 25, 2009 5:31 pm

Hi John,
I recently subscribed to your site (first time for me paying for a site). Great stuff. 3 questions.

1. Last year, I picked Rodgers on every team I could. Guaranteed him as a top 5 qb that I took in the 7th-8th rd of as many nffc drafts as i could last year. Anyone player you "love" right now going after round 6 that you think could potentially finish in the top 5 at his position?

2. Moreno or McFadden and why?

3. Do you prefer 12 or 14 team leagues and why?

welcome to the nffc and thanks for your time, John.

Hi John

Enjoy your site. Been a subscriber for a number of year and enjoy your sirius show. My kids think I am nuts because on Friday nights I will drive around town for three hours listening to your show on the car's sirius radio.

1. Tell me why Randy Moss can't duplicate 2007 with Tom Brady back.

2. What round does Jonathan Stewart go in the draft with his injury problems. Is he still worth playing as a flex player.

3. At what point in the draft does Brandon Marshall become a value pick. Do you think he will end up playing and contributing? Is there any chance of a trade?

4. Which rookie WR do you project to be the next Eddie Royal or DeSean Jackson?

Thanks

Hello John.....

1- Brady, Brees, Manning....in the latest ADP report, all 3 are going in the first two rounds....worth it in this format, or better off waiting a round or two for the next tier...or even further for the following tier?

2- Ochocinco....getting a lot of love.....rebound or mirage?

3- Ray Rice, McFadden, Greg Olsen, Desean Jackson, Eddie Royal.....all seem to be moving up draft boards....who's real and who's not and are they becoming overvalued?

4- Knowshon & Beanie.....still able to make impacts? If not early in the season, when?

5-Witten....overvalued or value pick in this format as a 3rd rounder?

Thanks....big fan of your site,
Glenn

Oh....a couple more.....

-AJ or Fitz.....only because this debate is raging on another thread....and is Calvin, Wayne or Moss in their class? Has Steve Smith dropped out of this tier with his latest injury?

-Where would you slot dominant, yet non-PPR type backs like Turner, Deangelo, & Jacobs?

Ginn, Hixon, Harvey, Henry?
Any of these due for a big breakout year?

Holt, Driver, Santana Moss, Muhammad, Bruce?
Any of these got enough left in the tank to have a big year?

Of these second string backs....which ones will have huge years worthy of a starting fantasy slot, injuries to the starting backs aside?
Sproles, Felix, Bradshaw, Leon Washington, Donald Brown, Lendale, Mendenhall, McCoy...and in what order?

Vincent Jackson, Antonio Bryant....sinking....becoming value picks?

What does the signing of Eggs & the news about Cadillac mean for Jones, Ward, & Graham.....are these things to take seriously?

Thanks again,
Glenn

Questions For John Hansen: Post Them Here

Post by Tom Kessenich » Wed Aug 26, 2009 5:51 am

John was good enough to answer a bunch of questions ahead of time. Here are his answers:

1. Chris Henry is flying up the draft charts right now. Your projections for
him are fairly modest and not too long ago you said that Andre Caldwell
might still win this job. My questions are do you believe Henry will
contribute in a big way. Also, if he did end up as a major contributor, who
does he take the catches away from - Coles or Ochocinco? Could he even end
up starting?

Not sure if I said Caldwell could win the job, but Henry is moving up our
board for sure because he's looked good, is in a contract year, and because
he can really help them playing outside. He could push Coles to the slot at
times, and I think he'll take some catches from both guys. But keep in mind
they won't get anything from the TE position here.

2. You have very modest production for Willie Parker this year. Do you see a
full blown running back by committee this year in Pittsburgh. If not, does
Willie have nice upside this year given his adp?
I see a guy in Parker who has worn down and has seen his stats across the
board fall off three years running. I'm not sure it'll be a committee, but
also keep in mind Mewelde Moore was excellent for them, and he should see
the field. So that's two other guys who deserve touches.

QUESTION 2
One football, Why did you bow out of the HAFAX-II league? Tony Cincotta and
myself are running your old team now.
I've never been in that league, Tom Simons has been in it.

OFF FOOTBALL, How did your son "drumming" with that band work out? I forget
who it was, but remember you mentioning it....never saw the follow up.
He played on stage with Weezer, who we are seeing again tomorrow night
actually with Blink 182. He did great. He's an awesome musician.

Favorite Floyd album? Favorite Shins song? How about Death Cab?
Really tough, but I have to go The Wall. Favorite Shins is also tough, but
I'll go Kissing the Lipless. Death is Great, I met them last year. I think
Soul Meets Body may be the best rock song of the decade. Granted, softer
rock.

Already bored enough folks.....welcome to the NFFC, what took you so long?
Mainly, not willing to go anywhere Labor Day weekend.

QUESTION 3
1) Please talk the Ray Rice owners down from their 5th round ledge.
Still don't think he's good enough to consistently run between the tackles,
don't think he's a lead back. His big game last year came out of a spread
formation, Flacco was in the shotgun, so he ran out of that. I don't think
they'll use that too much. RBBC. But in a PPR, he is attractive because his
role is expanding.

2) 3RR -- the future of fantasy football, or just a passing fad?
Fantasy has grown steadily, which to me is a sign it's here to stay. There's
a whole generation of kids who don't know the NFL without it.

3) 100 meter dash: John Hansen, Usain Bolt, Adam Caplan -- who comes in
second?
I would smoke Caplan. I think I'd give Marcedes Lewis a run for his money. I
still run pretty well, actually.

4) Top 3 Foo Fighters songs
1. Everlong 2. I'll Stick Around 3. Times like These.

QUESTION 4
1) Talk me out of taking Fitzgerald with the 3 pick.
You can still get a really good WR in the 2nd.

2) More TD's this year J Jones (sea) or Caddy (tb)?
Jones

3) How concerned are you with P.Thomas's injury?
Not right now.

4) Better WR, Avery (stl) or hester (chi)
Hester, way better QB.

QUESTION 5
Where do you prefer to draft from if you aren't first. 12 team league and
3rr.
I had a killer draft for NFL.com league picking from #11.

Also, if you are in the middle of the first, how early would you take a wr ?
2nd round.

Your take on the Seahawks fantasy guys.
I think their passing game will be solid. Nothing special, but I like
Carlson a lot.

QUESTION 6
will Westy be the S.O.D. IF he goes after overall pick # 10?
Hard to say he will be, since he'll be top-15 overall.

QUESTION 7
1. Is the Bills offense really as bad as they have shown so far?
Probably not, but it will be if TO isn't playing.

2. Who would you take 1st C.Johnson or A.Johnson?
Andre in a PPR for sure. I may go Calvin in non-PPR.

3. What rookie RB has the best fantasy season?
Moreno will.

4. Who would you want as your #2 RB and what kind of production do you
expect from them?
1.L.Johnson
2.Mcfadden
3.D.Ward

I'll take Ward, but 1000 yards and 8-9 TDs is all I would expect.

QUESTION 8
LT2 - Bounce back to top 5 RB or continued slip down the mountain side?
I think he'll be top-10, and he's somewhat safe. But I'd be a fool if I
assume that will be the case at his age.

Reggie Bush or McFadden?
Bush.

Ward or Holmes?
Holmes

QUESTION 9
1)Will you autograph my cousins NFFC name tag (DR. FI$HER) ? I think he has
a mancrush on you.
No, I don't do autographs, too corny.

2) Who is the 3rd round (14 team league) RB gem that may perform like a 1st
rounder
3rd round may be too late for like Grant, so I'll say Moreno.

3) The Rapid Draft girl or Hank Baskett's wife?
Hank Baskett's wife

4) Which NE Patriot RB emerges since they have about a half dozen?
Taylor.

QUESTION 10
I recently subscribed to your site (first time for me paying for a site).
Great stuff. 3 questions.

1. Last year, I picked Rodgers on every team I could. Guaranteed him as a
top 5 qb that I took in the 7th-8th rd of as many nffc drafts as i could
last year. Anyone player you "love" right now going after round 6 that you
think could potentially finish in the top 5 at his position?
Not really, more about values and solid guys, don't see any great picks like
Rodgers this year.

2. Moreno or McFadden and why?
Moreno is a far better runner and overall player. McFadden is a one-trick
pony in an RBBC.

3. Do you prefer 12 or 14 team leagues and why?
I do like 12 team leagues, just more used to it and like how the talent is
spread out. Little too spread in 14-teamers, but I do like larger rosters in
a 12-teamer.

QUESTION 11
Enjoy your site. Been a subscriber for a number of year and enjoy your
sirius show. My kids think I am nuts because on Friday nights I will drive
around town for three hours listening to your show on the car's sirius
radio.

1. Tell me why Randy Moss can't duplicate 2007 with Tom Brady back.
It's a pass-happy system and both are two of the best ever at their
position, plus Moss was solid with a backup last year.

2. What round does Jonathan Stewart go in the draft with his injury
problems. Is he still worth playing as a flex player.
About 8th sounds right, Yes on the flex.

3. At what point in the draft does Brandon Marshall become a value pick. Do
you think he will end up playing and contributing? Is there any chance of a
trade?
I guess 6th round. I doubt a trade.

4. Which rookie WR do you project to be the next Eddie Royal or DeSean
Jackson?
Percy Harvin could be.

QUESTION 12
1- Brady, Brees, Manning....in the latest ADP report, all 3 are going in the
first two rounds....worth it in this format, or better off waiting a round
or two for the next tier...or even further for the following tier?
I would wait.

2- Ochocinco....getting a lot of love.....rebound or mirage?
Rebound, he's moving extremely well and of course Palmer is back.

3- Ray Rice, McFadden, Greg Olsen, Desean Jackson, Eddie Royal.....all seem
to be moving up draft boards....who's real and who's not and are they
becoming overvalued?
Olsen, Jackson, and Royal are for real, not sure about Rice and McFadden.

4- Knowshon & Beanie.....still able to make impacts? If not early in the
season, when?
Moreno will be a few weeks into the season, Beanie I think will be longer.

4-Witten....overvalued or value pick in this format as a 3rd rounder?
Overvalued in that I like a lot of young guys, but Witten should be great.

QUESTION 13
-AJ or Fitz.....only because this debate is raging on another thread....and
is Calvin, Wayne or Moss in their class? Has Steve Smith dropped out of this
tier with his latest injury?
Fitz because he scores TDs. Moss and Wayne are close too.

-Where would you slot dominant, yet non-PPR type backs like Turner,
Deangelo, & Jacobs?
Middle-to-late 1st, Jacobs is 2nd though.

Any of them going to seriously outperform their ADP? I'd have to say Benson, since he's still pretty young and it's a power running game and they need to pound the ball plenty. I would have said Jones before the James addition.

Your magazine states that your site concentrates on scouting rather than news.
When you state scouting, what exactly does that entail?
Do you and your writers go to the games and actually scout the players, watch on TV & scout, or read scouting reports & analyze the results?

Yours is one of a few fantasy sites I subscribe to (and enjoy), but please tell me what differentiates your site from Footballguys, or Draftsharks, or the Huddle, etc.

Thanks,
Glenn
