After completing my 4th and final nffc draft of the year, there's one issue I have with nffc rules. It's that there are too many bench spots.
9 spots for a 14-team league and 10 for a 12-teamer. In my online draft tonight, 50% of the draft was spent on selecting my bench players.
While we have $1000 to spend in faab dollars, I'm not sure I'll have a chance to get a rb who "lucks" into a starting role due to injury because almost EVERY backup rb has already been drafted. This is a minor complaint in the grand scheme. I love the nffc but are benches are huge compared to the nfbc...
NFBC- Over twice as many starters with a bench only 3/4ths the size. Yes, I'm comparing apples to oranges but it just seems like the shorter bench in baseball makes it tougher. NFBC FAAB dollars are precious. Not only because baseball is nearly twice as long but because throughout the course of the year, there will be several players that will be available that can make your team better.
I'd like the NFFC to consider shortening the bench for next year by 2 to 3 spots. I'm open to pros and cons and others opinions however.

An injury in football is more likely than an injury in baseball which warrants a bigger football bench?

A deep bench in a 14 team league sucks the life out of the free agent pool.
I like it the way it is. Free agent talent availability is an important element in allowing a team to strengthen during the season.

I like a deep bench, I feel it adds more worth to the draft itself. The less talent available on waivers the more I like it.

18 roster players is plenty for 12 teams or 14 teams. In all of my NFFC drafts most agreed to the same size, 18 is enough.

your only talking about one or two rounds more. some guys take kickers or def in last couple rounds so you can take one or two longshots and if they pan out your gold. also you can back up rb spots too. i like a deep bench.

Richard, we don't have bye weeks in the NFBC where you have six teams out at once. You have tough decisions to make with injuries and even tougher ones when the byes start coming around. And if you don't think there are breakout stars in the late rounds, then you don't remember Miles Austin from last year.
Anyway, it's a good discussion and it comes up every year. Good luck all.
