Thursday Games

It would appear that the reality of an entire season of Thursday night games will be upon us as early as 2012. We left this discussion off sometime more than a month ago, and I believe Greg and Tom were going to check with STATS to see if a Wednesday deadline could be instituted ONLY for players in the Thursday game(s) (and Friday night for everyone else). I am wondering if there is any update on this.

With the recent news of a full season of Thursday night games, does this change people's opinion about how free agency should be conducted throughout the season? Some were previously of the mindset that it should be once a week on Fridays all season -- anyone still in that camp?

I am still in the once per week on Friday's camp. My second choice would be a mini free agency on Wednesday with the rest on Friday. After that would be Wednesday only. My last choice would be 2 full free agency periods. It's just brutal trying to do free agency twice a week. I try and avoid leagues that do that.

I am in the mini free F.A. for Wednesday and full on Friday. If not doable from the IT end this year I am for one full F.A. on Wednesday. Not a big fan of it but if Dallas Clark goes down on Sunday everyone has to have the chance to pick up Tamme for Thursday as an example. Those points can be the difference between thousands of dollars for players. I feel you have to have a F.A. pickup period for all games played in a high stakes format. A local league I would love to laugh at the guy who gets screwed and squeeze him in a trade, unless it was me of course, just my opinion. Dont want two full F.A. pickups because it will give an unfair advantage to some who have the time. I know everyone has the same "opportunity" for pickups but here on planet earth that really is not the case.

Good post and it's something we have to perfect before 2012 because you are right that Thursday nights will have an every week game before we know it. So let's get this right.

We have not finalized this for the NFFC yet, but we will. The options include:

1. Wednesday night FAAB just for players in that Thursday game. Cuts can be made and those players also go in the full Friday night FAAB that runs each week.

2. Full Wednesday FAAB once Thursday games start like we have it now; full Friday FAAB before then.

3. Full Wednesday FAAB and full Friday FAAB.

4. Full Friday FAAB all year despite Thursday games.

I think we know what would work best and we have to see if we can program it that way. With Thursday games every week starting in 2012, I think we have to do it right and we should look at implementing that for 2011 as well if we can. But these are the options we have unless someone else can post another option. Which would you choose?

[/QB]Greg,

I"m not sure I'm crazy about cut players going back into the free agency pool the same week. We have never had players cut and then available the very next week. There has always been a one week lag and I think I like that much better.

Also, will the software be set up so that we can start looking at free agents even before the week is up? I would really like to search free agency during Sunday and Monday night games if at all possible. There is a lot of down time there and it would be great to get a head start on things.

[/QUOTE]I like option 1 with the exception of players cut should go into the pool the following week, also any players that play in the Thursday nite game should not be allowed to be cut on Friday they should have to wait until the following week .

I agree with Philpo. All players involved in FA transactions are only once per week..

Agree with some of the others in the thought that any player dropped should NOT be made available until the following weeks slate of games.

Option 1 or 3 would be fine with me.

I would say Wednesday and Friday, full pick ups.

With only Friday pickups, you will lose out on the Wednesday games. With only the Wednesday pick ups, you will be doing free agent process every week before the official and final injury reports come out, Friday mornings.

Definitely make sure that players dropped on Wednesday, can not be picked up on Friday, AND players picked up on Wednesday can not be dropped on Friday. I don't know how your IT guys can swing these two options, but it seems it would be mandatory to keep things from getting out of hand here.
