Here's Tom's FBG Team: Have At It
Sorry Eddie, I have to respectfully disagree. First of all, we can't say Wayne's production this season is the result of declining skills which was the primary argument made against my pick at the time of the draft. Well you can say that but there's no concrete evidence to support it. Clearly, the primary reason why Wayne's (and all of the Colts except for Garcon now) production is down is because Peyton is gone. I think we're all in agreement on that, right? Seems rather obvious unless people are of the belief Peyton's absence isn't a major factor in the Colts' woes this season.
That said, Wayne hasn't realized the draft spot I made for him. At no point have I denied that. So it's more than fair to call him a bust. Again, no argument from me. I just think it's a rather curious thing to call me out about considering I clearly stated at the time of the pick Wayne's value was contingent on Peyton playing at some point this season, which does not appear will happen. I'm fine being called out about anything but to ignore the primary aspect of the point of view I was making? That's what has me puzzled.
I was quite vocal on these boards about Mario Manningham being a top sleeper pick this year and Donald Driver being a great value pick given where he was being drafted. Both of those statements have been proven to be horribly wrong. If the point is to call me out and make me look bad there's two great examples that are much better that could have been used. I swung and missed badly on both. Have at it.
So nah, not being stubborn or defensive. Well maybe a little stubborn. Just baffled as to why this pick is generating so much attention.

Seriously, this team is filled with bad picks. Charles was a bad pick as I said earlier. DeAngelo hasn't panned out. Manningham has been a bust. Burleson has been a bust. Winslow hasn't gotten it done. I made a few nice picks (Brees, Austin, Fred Davis late) but I didn't draft well with this team at all. That's why I said Wayne is the least of my problems. This was a pretty bad draft. No reason for me to be "stubborn" or "defensive" about that. I sucked that night.

I've had this same argument with people over the last few years regarding Terrell Owens. I used to have it regarding Marvin Harrison. Many fantasy players want to cling to the past when they view a player, and not fully appreciate the approaching cliff. It is easy to look at past stats and believe "but look how great he is and how in shape he is!".
The same was true for Donald Driver. He was already airborne over the cliff. His drop was imminent.
Tom, I wasn't out to "get" you (well, maybe a little ) I can appreciate your views on why you thought Wayne would produce. There were just way too many indicators to me that he wouldn't approach numbers to justify a 3rd/4th round pick for me.

We'll never know what might have happened with Wayne if Peyton was able to return at some point this season. I think it's safe to say Wayne's production would improve, though. As I've been saying, had I known the night of this draft that Peyton was done for the year I obviously wouldn't have drafted Wayne. Should I have avoided the mess entirely? In retrospect, absolutely. The same can be said for everyone who drafted Dallas Clark and Austin Collie too. Only Pierre Garcon owners are feeling good about things these days.
It's a crazy game that we all love.

[/QUOTE]I spit my water out reading this, as I had a visual of Driver jumping, and Tom with his hands clutched around him!
Thanks for the laugh, Jack!!!

EVERY Packer fan would save Donald Driver if he was falling over a cliff. That's how much we care about him.

Driver has been counted out early the last few seasons only to resurrect his season in the second half. I'm not saying that's going to happens but I've been on the wrong end (dropping him to early) of it a couple of times. Nothing he could do in the second half would surprise me.

So nah, not being stubborn or defensive. Well maybe a little stubborn. Just baffled as to why this pick is generating so much attention." Tom's draft next year:
round 1 - Reggie Bush
round 2 - Reggie Wayne
round 3 - Reggie Hammond
Assuming Manning and Jack Cates are healthy.

No way on Reggie Bush but you can't beat the value with Reggie Hammond.
