Defensive Scoring Points: Are They Fair
Some interesting points/opinions I agree with:
Kevins observation showing the "D's" accounting for only 7% of the scoring 2nd only to kickers.
Diesels comment "why have defensive position if it's not going to be a factor in the scoring.
Jules point about Mannings 49 TD year was a good comparison to any other out of the ordinary scoring season regardless of position.
Billys comment about pre season research making Chicago a clear cut favorite under this scoring system.
Rainmans point about owners who would rather draft any ole defense in the 14th round or later instead of rolling the dice on an early pick.
All of these statements are good and I agree with. If we're going to draft a position then let's make every position important enough to think about on draft day. Otherwise...what's the point? Defenses alone are not responsible for anyones wins/losses...unless...we stop scoring the other positions.
I vote to keep the scoring the way it is. At least give it a 2 year trial run before messing with it.

Yawn, another uninformed poster. Average defensive scoring is up 1 point over last year in the NFFC, 8.5 ppg avg this yr, 7.5 ppg last year.

I don't think anyone wanted the team def to decide half the close games. Subtract some of those points for next year please.Uh ... I can't even bother responding to this one, more of the same jibberish.

If you add more def points it will become:
"I play in the NFFC, you know the one that drafts defenses in the first round. lol."
NFFC defensive scoring is middle of the pack compared to other high stakes lges. Seriously, consider basing at least one of your arguments on something that is factually accurate ? Kinda funny coming from someone who calls himself "sound advice".

An INT is an INT...subjectivity should not be implemented into FF scoring.
If you give the QB an "out" due to it hitting the WR in the hands, but resulting in an INT...where do you draw the line?
Blame the O-Line for allowing a rush to the QB for an INT or sack-fumble?
NOT give the QB/WR a rec when it's an acrobatic amazing adjustment?
Have a new category for tipped balls...?
Let's not go nuts!

One possible adjustment I agree with is a STATS issue. Would STATS be able to create a program within the system for the software to "recognize" points given up by the Offense, as opposed to your defense? If this were possible, it would be a good thing and something that more leagues would try to do.
I doubt that the STATS system would be able to do this though, because by definition, once a ball is turned over, the offense BECOMES the defense. So if an INT or fumble is returned for a TD, the points are officially scored against the DEFENSE, not the offense. This is a very ticky area.

Greg,
Here is something that is really different. How about seperating defenses and special teams? Other than industry laziness, I have never understood why these two very different aspects of the game were lumped together. This would be simple and cutting edge! It would also allow for more strategy and skill in picking teams with good returners and teams with good defenses. I think that it would eliminate some of the luck factor that results from a single entity. Blocked kick points would be assigned to the special teams. Any comments from anyone? I know this is a bit different, but please give it some consideration. Thanks!

Hall, Bush and others are more valuable to their teams because of their KR abilities.

you can't have points for blocked punts or fg's. there is too much subjecitvity in that.
does a ball that is tipped at the line on a fg try that ends up just short considered "blocked"?
does a ball that is tipped at on a punt that goes 25 yards considered "blocked"?
i would think you are opening a can of worms that could cause peoples views of how a play is seen into a possible scoring discrepencies. i would avoid that at all costs.

Giving the TD to the player never works....Just my opinion. I'm in a league that awards this. It has NO effect on the outcome of the draft because you're lucky if you get one TD from the player you draft that returns kicks. So how many guys are going to start Dante Hall at WR because they have a 1-16 shot that he will return a punt or kickoff? Reggie Bush may be one the VERY few that may be a good start with this kind of format, and only because he's a starter whether or not he returns kicks.

I think it's kind of overkill to reward points to both. Awarding the player would be interesting to see when/if guys like Welker, Hall, Parrish, etc. are drafted along with increasing the value of a Reggie Bush. I'm sure the people who drafted Bush early wish that rule was in effect right now.

Now how about .5 pts to a punt being downed inside the 10 yard line ?? This is not easily accomplished and would add some much needed excitement to the punting aspect of fantasy football !
