Slow Drafts Need A New Name
I have to admit, I'm VERY EXCITED about the upcoming NFFC season and we are going to kick it off with Slow Drafts starting right after the NFL Draft. These leagues will contain league prizes and an overall prize pool.
However, it's time to change the name of this contest from SLOW DRAFTS. The name alone gives a bad connotation. It gives a bad vibe. It feels BORING. Yes, they can be very SLOOOOOOOOOOW at times, but honestly they can also be very exciting, quick and even done in one night if everyone agrees to it.
So it's time for a name change.
We will unveil our plans this morning and for now we are calling this contest the NFFC Draft 'n Hold National Championship. These are Draft Champions-style leagues where you draft 30 players and after the draft your job is done. The computer picks your optimal scoring lineup through 16 weeks and the team with the most points wins the league title and the overall title. All you do is: Draft....and....Hold.
If there's a better name out there for this contest, let me know here. But we're excited about this format and we're happy to say that we're the only Draft 'n Hold style contest with a national prize pool and an overall contest. Let's blow this format out of the water in 2012.
The time inbetween picks this year has been changed to 8 hours. What we found out in baseball is that some folks wanted leagues that could be done even faster than that. We can talk about that later, but it is possible to form some leagues that have 6 hours per pick or if desired even 4 hours per pick. We'll even run some of these leagues in one night if all of the owners agree to that. Stay tuned and we'll show you how leagues can be run with slightly different time frames to accommodate owners.
We also have a One Round Que developed for this software to help owners automate their next picks very easily. More on this feature soon, but we unveiled it in football and it worked perfectly. We'll see if we can enhance it even more in the future.
Thanks all and get ready for a fun season of DC-style drafts starting in April and running through August.
But Slow Drafts are a thing of the past. Time for Draft 'n Hold Leagues to rise to the top!!

It looks like you have your mind made up with the draft n hold. For sure an improvement over slow draft but I believe Draft 'n Done has a nice alliteration to it and better connotation.
You draft and you're done. You don't even have to look at it again if you don't want to since the software manages the roster's best scores..
That also can be said about some of my baseball teams

Steve - there might be a difference between the Draft and Hold and the Draft Champions.... In the draft and hold you might have to set lineups. I don't have time to read through the rules in these contests right now, but there seem to be two different games...
See you in Vegas!!!

Pete- per the rules it looks like the slows are set up like a draft championship style draft - like they were for baseball. As far as I can tell. No weekly starting lineups are required as the computer will pick the optimal scoring lineup for each team after games are completed. I'm assuming none of the will be faab hence the hold part.
Wish I was going to Vegas... stay at the Bellagio Pete - you'll have a blast.

Wish I was going to Vegas... stay at the Bellagio Pete - you'll have a blast. Draft 'n Hold leagues are just like Draft Champions Leagues: No setting a weekly lineup. No doing anything after Draft Day. The only difference is 30-man rosters here compared to the live event 26-man rosters for the DCs. We definitely had to differentiate the two contests with different names because the prize payouts, draft formats, lineups, are all slightly different.

Greg,
Is there any reason why these leagues do not go 17 weeks?

That also can be said about some of my baseball teams After reading the responses I agree with Steve's idea of Draft 'n Done. The "hold" portion of the first idea seems to indicate a "keeper" league of some kind.
Just my $.02

Pete [/QUOTE]Pete I agree, when I first read the name I thought the NFFC was going to have keeper leagues.

What am I missing here? Aren't ALL DC leagues "draft and done"???
I know of a computer term that might fit but is obviously too technical. Maybe a synonym for "asynchronous" would work? The main difference between Slow Drafts and other DCs is that "not everyone must be present for picks to occur". Nonconcurrent, nonsimultaneous? Again, too techy, though accurate.
Put another way, in traditional DCs, there are timed limits to each draft pick, in the 60-90 second range. Slow drafts allow HOURS per pick. How about something like perpetual, extended, prolonged or expanded?
