Greg, I think the issue isn't about changing how QBs rank. Rather, by reducing passing TDs to 4 points and/or increasing Ints to -2, it would change the proportion of our team total points scored by this single position. Right now, QBs account for probably 15-20% of our 10-player lineups. That could be reduced, making it a bit harder to "live off" our QB.

And I'm not so sure that reducing passing TDs to 4 would cause everyone to load up on RBs early in drafts. However, coupled with full PPR for RBs, it might. I know in ESPN leagues, they default to 4-PT passing TDs but with NO PPR for anyone. So yes, in those, QBs get pushed to rounds 4-5+ and RBs rule the first couple rounds. But as long as WRs and TEs have a slight PPR advantage, I think they'd still be drafted early. Some data to chew on:
NFFC 2011 Primetime Overall Standings thru week 12 - QB percent of total team points

I'm sure Greg can get at the actual QB points as a percentage of total team points. But I can't. So the closest I can come without a ton of effort is this. I've listed the QBs of various cross-sections of Primetime teams: the top 20, 101-110, 176-185 (middle of the pack) and 351-360. I'm just guessing here that these teams started their top QB every week (but they may have played some matchups). Also, I've prorated the QBs total points because they've each only played 11 games in 12 weeks; so I prorated for the missing game (which of course they started a DIFFERENT QB, but this should be close enough to illustrate the point).

Observations:

1. As expected, most of the top 20 teams have a stud QB. Except for the teams with Ryan, Flacco and perhaps the 3 with Manning, the other 15 all have QBs who are having STUD seasons.

2. The average percent of points that comes from just the QB is 19%, despite the fact that QB is just 1 of 10 positions we start each week. I'm not suggesting that we want or need it down around 10%, but maybe 15%?

3. Many teams are even getting well over 20% of their team production just from their QB.

4. Though it certainly takes much more than a good QB to be successful in this format, having one - along with a solid team around him - seems to be a marked advantage.

Please understand that I'm not whining about not having good QBs. I realize that we're all free to draft them early, and anyone who knows me knows that we almost always DO draft a top QB in the first couple rounds. But I would be in favor of considering dropping passing TDs to 4 points, but leaving PPR at 1 for WR/TE and only .5 for RBs. If not, we might find the NFFC too similar to ESPN leagues, where RBs dominate the first couple rounds of drafts.

Food for thought though.

I think this thread has run its course on the playoff format. It has officially diverted to QB TDs, INTs and now the dreaded Chum Chum Club, which immediately brought an email to me!! Oh boy.

As for QB scoring Mike, for every good team this year with Aaron Rodgers there's a struggling team who took Michael Vick right around the same spot. Drafting QBs early isn't the only winning formula in our contest. In fact, throughout the years we've seen teams dominate with strong RBs (led by LT2), dominate with WRs (see Tom Yates 2009), and now I guess QBs. Let's see if those QBs are the difference makers in the playoffs.

Even with 6 points per passing TD, only 6 of the Top 50 picks according to our ADP this year were QBs.

Greg, my point isn't about which QBs we each get; it's that we ALL get a disproportionate amount of our points from the QB position, whether we have a stud or a midrange guy. IMO, it minimizes the other positions a bit. Should one player in our lineup (QB) so routinely score what 2-3 players do? It just seems a little too easy to save a bad week.

For the record, we have Rodgers, Brees a couple times too. So this isn't sour grapes.

I hope you didn't tell them the secret handshake or tell them how they can get their Little Orphan Annie secret decoder ring to see the encrypted messages that Tom sends in the weekly newsletter!
