Greg knows these answers better than I do, but I think baseball was 6x FB before the strike and FB is more than 6x baseball now.
[/QUOTE]Wow! Those numbers are stunning. How do you have time to compose such data with all the time you spend on fraternity pledges.

3RR, Socialized Fantasy Medicine?

John is somewhat right here. Baseball was definitely the king when we started Fantasy Baseball Magazine in 1989 and football really started to come on in 1991, '92 and '93. Baseball was still more popular in 1994 and if you remember that season three players were on pace to top Maris's single-season home run record (Thomas, Bagwell and I believe Griffey) and everything baseball related (fantasy, memorabilia, cards) was on fire. But the strike ended 1994 and delayed the start of 1995 and it left in its wake a lot of disgruntled baseball fans.

Fantasy football overtook baseball in popularity in 1995 and it's never looked back. The last public financial figures that CBS Sportsline released before it was bought by Viacom showed that fantasy football revenue was 6 times that of baseball. Now that doesn't mean that football is six times as popular as recent studies show that 2x as many people or a little more play fantasy football than baseball. The number of leagues they play in is also a little higher in football than baseball.

But bottom line is that fantasy football is by far the most popular of the sports and only a lengthy lockout/strike will prevent that from ever changing.

Two reasons why Fantasy football may be more popular than Fantasy Baseball:

1. Far more luck in Fantasy Football. Anyone has a chance to win.

2. Most of the games are on the same day and you do not have to keep up all week.

Two reason why serious fantasy players may return to baseball as the best game:

1. Too many unpredictable key injuries in football.

2. Too few games.
