I played in one some of John’s leagues about 10 years ago, quality stuff if any of you are looking for intense leagues that offer more glory than prize money.

The optimal position really depends on how accurately you predict the true value of players versus everyone else. I for example predict a certain player will be at worst the 7th most valuable player this season. However, I see him slotted at 12-16 by most of the “experts.” So if I get the 14th pick I end up with what could be the 7th best player and the 14th best player with my 1st two picks.

All that said #1 has a clear advantage, because you will likely get a guy that produces in the top-5. If your board is more accurate than every body else then you may land 2 more top-20 producers with picks 28 and 29. A definite advantage.

#6 spot is most advantagious this year. Then #7. Then #1.

#1 is the best. Not that I need it, but other people have supported my claim.

Of course if the owner drafting at #1 is a smuck, he won't do well. But, get the #1 pick in the hands of someone who knows what their doing, it's game over. Case closed.

Gekko, I don’t think that the #1 spot is as “valuable“ as you seem to think it is, especially in a 14 team draft. The last 15 years or so have always had an “above the rest” type RB to draft first (Emmitt, TD and Faulk) and while there was an advantage then it just isn’t that way this year IMO. There are 4-6 RB that could produce the highest points from the position. I think I would want a pick in that 4-6 range if only to have more choices in the 2nd round from 2.7 to 2.11 as opposed to 2.14 and 3.1

Het Geeko...did you mean "shmuck?" How can you say that the #1 pick guarantees anything, regardless of who gets it? First of all, Big T is absolutely correct. The days of guys like Faulk and Emmitt being around as sure-fire 1st pick free rides into the post-season are over for the time being. I have Holmes in an auction/keeper league, and I'm VERY concerned about his chances to repeat, or even approach last years numbers. Unless, of course, you have someone else in mind. It's what you do from the fifth round ON, that makes or breaks your team, aside from injuries obviously. Any "smuck" would know that much. Case closed.

Everyone knows that Gecko is taking Steven Jackson in the 4th (maybe 5th round) and that is all he needs to win the title! ;)
