How Bout A Tuesday Chat?

Post by Tom Kessenich » Tue Aug 02, 2005 7:44 am

Hey folks, we're inching ever so closer to the NFFC and as the countdown continues and the sign-ups keep pouring in let's step up on this fine Tuesday and have ourselves a chat.

So what's on your minds today? The holdouts by Brian Westbrook and Hines Ward? The excitement about our three-city event? The nationally-televised Packers-Bills scrimmage on Friday night?

I'm here for the afternoon and be happy to chat about anything and everything.

Are you sure you're not just probing for info to help you in about 4 hours.

I was chatting with Dave earlier about how much I hate the 11 hole. If I come out of this one looking competitive it may be my greatest accomplishment. :D

I think this will be the most difficult area of this years draft. Alot of the RB's look the same in this spot and since not all will fare well it will be relatively easy to tank your 2nd rounder.

Maybe I'll just take Owens and call it a day.

No need to probe. I'm always confident going into a draft. :D

One thing I've seen is that after the Top 4 or 5 RBs the next 8-10 are all over the map and I think that gets back to your point about so many of them looking alike.

This year seems particularly difficult. The problem I see is the players I rate as RB2 will go as RB1 and the RB3 as RB2. S. Jackson is a prime example.

I love Jackson, the Rams have a great schedule - but as long as Faulk lingers around it's hard to see the value in taking Jackson 2:4

Jackson is definitely an interesting case. Not only will Faulk remain in the mix but Martz clearly hasn't shown much love for the running game. If that was the case with Marshall Faulk having all-time great seasons it's hard for me to see him changing his approach with Jackson as the starter.

I agree 100%. R.Johnson may be the safest 2nd rounder from my position. I'm not sure why but Rudi has never really excited me. He has put up solid #'s but I always seem to look the other way with him.

I really like the 3rd rounders better Bell, C.Williams and Arrington.

You'll have to be in one of the 1st 7 slots to get them though.

I like Rudi quite a bit and I chuckled at people who were scared off by his alleged tough Strength of Schedule (don't get me started on that :D ) last season. The guy is talented. He's not flashy and he's not a guy whose going to blow you away with speed but he just gets the job done.

I think the thing with Rudi is: he doesn't seem to have much upside. I can see him finishing top 15 but never top 5. Of course now that I've publicly laid that out there, Rudi will have a Tiki season. :D

Speaking of which, is it just me or are you a little scared of Barber this year? It's not B.Jacobs either. I just have a funny feeling that he should be avoided. Maybe this is his year to go back to 2 TD's.

I don't think he'll be a Top 5 fantasy RB either because he isn't used in the passing game. As far as Barber, for unknown reasons Coughlin seems determined to get Barber out of the goal-line role even though he's been outstanding there. It's a puzzler, but Barber is simply too good to pass on in my opinion. His inconsistent TD production is what would keep me from taking him as a RB1 but I would not hesitate to have him as my RB2 -- especially in a point/reception league such as the NFFC.

That's the difficulty with the 8-20 RB's. You could make a valid arguement for each one but the fact remains that several of them will tank (like always) and be replaced by guys you can't bet the farm on, on draft day.

That's what has always made FF so fun to me. Every year is it's own entity, with a slight carryover from the previous year. Gotta run.
We can pick this up again later.
