ESPN's Chris Mortenson has probably been the most optimistic about the lockout getting settled in time for a full season, so I'll quote his latest Tweet. Asked when he thought the lockout would end, he said: "no later than June 30-July 4. Maybe sooner."

I'd like that. :D

I'd LOVE that! Heading to Myrtle Beach from July 2nd-9th and nothing would be finer than to wake up with a cup of coffee on the balcony, watching the surf, and working on projections!

And knowing they MEAN something (minus all the free agency switches).

We're definitely getting some good vibes over the past few days. Hopefully some real progress is being made.

A tweet from NFL Network's Albert Breer: ".. Believe it: We're into a very critical phase of negotiations."

Albert Breer reports today that both sides realize the window to get a deal done without sacrificing part of the season (and massive revenue) is rapidly shrinking. Breer says one source told him there's a 30-day window to get a deal done while another source said there's a 4-6 window. Other reports suggest a deal could get done by July 4 (Colts owner Jim Irsay believes that could happen).

I think it's too soon to feel a lot of optimism but there may be a sliver of hope finally emerging. If a deal can get done by early July that would guarantee the league enough time to get free agency/trades done and have a full training camp.

Let's hope both sides get aggressive and get this deal done within the next 30 days.

The league and players issued a joint statement today. It doesn't say a whole lot besides the fact the two sides are continuing to negotiate but I think the fact they issued a statement together is a positive step. Perhaps things are moving in the right direction.

Finally.

Here's the statement: “NFL owners and players have engaged in further confidential discussions before Chief Magistrate Judge Boylan this week. Those discussions will continue."

Here's Albert Breer's article which does a good job of summing up the current situation:

It looks like the latest meetings have ended, but if it's true that the owners have come down drastically from their $1 billion demand then we're headed towards a deal. This report sounds promising, as long as the two sides meet again shortly:

I hope we can get a deal done by the Fourth of July. LET'S PLAY BALL!!!

I posted a few weeks ago that until one side begins making some concessions nothing was going to happen. It sounds like the owners have taken that first step and it's great to see. Now real negotiations can continue since both sides realize the clock is ticking and there's a lot of revenue at stake. It doesn't do either side any good to lose money because it shrinks the pie both sides want to take a healthy bite out of.
