Chris Johnson's Holdout - Are You Concerned?

The CBA will decide how this goes down. The upside cap and floor will be important but if he is a UFA after 4 years, which will be after next year for him I believe, check that, just looked it up, came in in 08 and signed a five year deal. Tenn can pay him now or he can possibly break the bank in 24 months. The rookie cap will help a ton so I think he gets the contract this year. The lifespan of a top RB is only 6-8 yrs to begin with so if they give him a 5 year deal they get him for all his prime years.

Last year, he threatened to hold out if he didn't get more money. So they paid him more. This year, he's saying that a raise in the contract that he has, is NOT what he's looking for. He wants a 5-6 year deal and wants 30+million dollars.

So there's probably nothing the Titans can offer CJ to keep him happy for 'one' more year. He's screaming "SHOW ME THE MONEY!"...and will sit until he gets it,.

Yes and no, he declined in terms of his numbers last year. Arian Foster is clearly the number one back this year and I would even venture to say that I can see one or two more running backs taken ahead of CJ this year. It is ill timing on CJ's part for a new contract, this will diminish his value a little for 2011 but he is still a clear first round pick. It just may be in the latter half of the first round...

[/QUOTE]If that's all he wants then they should give him the contract. That's pretty reasonable money for one of the best RBs in the league that has carried your team on his back the past few years.

Pappy, CJ deserves to be paid top dollar. No doubt about it. I'm just pessimistic that anything will go smooth after these past few months with the owners and players in the NFL.

if I was drafting at the end of the first round and Chris Johnson fell to me I'd have the worst poker face ever. :D

I still can't figure out Lady Gaga although I know I liked her better when she was Madonna.

Jason LaCanfora said today there's no end in sight to CJ's holdout. Sounds like this could go right up until the start of the season like the Revis holdout did with the Jets last year.

So far, CJ's value is holding firm in NFFC drafts. His ADP has dipped slightly to 4.37 but he hasn't gone lower than sixth in any draft. So nobody is backing off him too much yet. His talent is undeniable. The holdout, though, carries risk. Remember how bad Larry Johnson was coming back from his holdout a few years ago? Now, CJ is a much more talented RB than Johnson was but there could be a lesson learned there. And don't forget that Revis got hurt early last season after his return. So the threat of injury does increase the longer this goes on.

Has anyone backed off Johnson as a Top 4 pick or are you viewing him more as a value pick if you're picking in the 5-8 range? What are your thoughts on Light Blue Jesus right now?
