First come, First served - After Blind Bids are processed...

Post by TexasHeat » Mon Oct 08, 2007 9:02 am

Consideration for next season:

Why not make all free agents available on a first come first served basis after the blind bids have been processed for the week? The whole point of the blind bidding is to fairly decide who gets the hot free agents, and it works beautifully (don't change that). But after the bids are processed, why not open up the FA pool until kickoff of the first game? This would not include players dropped in the blind bidding that week, those players should be locked until the following week.

This would allow a last minute kicker pickup for someone that had a K pull a hammy during pregame. (just an example) It would allow for maximum flexibility for everyone right up until kickoff.

I'm more interested to hear why this might not be a good idea, and why it hasn't been used to this point. Can this be considered for the future?

Chime in...

thanks for the "input"

As I said in my final statement (I doubt you got that far)- I'm more interested to hear why this might not be a good idea, and why it hasn't been used to this point.

Snake, how do you really feel?

What the hell is so wrong with this idea? If you want a coveted FA, then bid on them. Then guys with GTDs can atleast pick up someone instead of taking a zero. Or the K scenario presented above.

I'm sure if the NFFC allowed this to happen, then we'd see the same type of response the other way. Not by you necessarily, but by most.

That is the phenomenon of follow the leader. It happens around here all the time.

THE PROBLEM IS TEXAS IS THAT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT COMMITMENTS AND WORK SCHEDULES. NOW IF WHATEVER TIME WAS DECIDED TO RE OPEN THE FREE AGENTS WOULD IT BE FAIR IF I HAVE A "JOB" TO BE AT AND ANOTHER PESRON COULD SIT BY THE COMPUTER AND PICK UP FA'S. I THINK THAT IS A MAJOR DRAW BACK.
Well, if that's the case, then isn't it unfair to allow lineup changes up until 5 minutes before kickoff for the very same reason?!

A couple of problems with the idea in a contest like this.

It gives an advantage to the person sitting by his computer all day and night when any breaking news hits. They get the player that had zero value until news came out. Ex - Matt Leinart trips over his dog on Saturday morning and if you hear it first you grab Warner who had very little value with Leinart healthy.

Why would you ever bid on a bye week filler? No need to if you can just go pick someone up FCFS. It cheapens the bidding process.

What price do you pay? FAAB is limited for a reason. How do you determine the price if your not bidding against anyone?

Technical problems, whether real or not. "I swear I tried to put in a claim but couldn't get on." Who do you call at 2 AM when your internet is down and you want to make a claim? Should we have Greg and Tom going through several dozen emails looking at time stamps?
You'll be fine long as your pretty face holds out, then it's gonna get pretty cold out...
GOOD POINT RUSS. HOWEVER BEFORE JOINING IN THE LEAGUE AND PONYING UP $1300 YOU ARE AWARE OF THAT AND WOULD MAKE THE NECESSARY ARRANGMENTS TO HAVE YOUR ROSTER SET. ALSO I THINK 4D BROUGHT UP SOME GOOD POINTS TOO.

Texas Heat - I'm playing you and I find out sunday morning your only kicker is out before you do. I can then flush the system of FA kickers by picking up and dropping in succession each and every one.
