Time for TE to be retired in fantasy

To answer the first question. No it wasn't the TE that killed me this week. It was some average QB from minn.

I just brought it up because in deep leagues like this TE is a very weak position. I knew after the strong weekend of TE the support would come flying out in favor keeping them. But we'll see at season end how many can say thier TE was worth drafting.

But as far as the TE position being important to the NFFC's setup, the answer is absolutely! Larger rosters and starting requirements make for harder leagues where the better prepared owner will have an advantage. This is what all high stakes leagues should strive for.

no one is saying the TE is a "strong" position. my question to you is why do you think we should ONLY be drafting "strong" positions?

should we have a QB/RB/WR only league? doesn't that take a lot of the fun out of it? once you get past the first 10 or so WR's all the rest often are the same and it is stone cold LUCK as to whether you get a productive one or not...

i think TE's, K's, Defenses add some fun to the game and those added variables make for a much more dynamic game...

John, you've done a good job of pressing some "hot" buttons at times and I'm sure you knew people would respond to this post. I think you also knew that the tight end position has been deeper this year than last year as you're finding guys like Eric Johnson and Antonio Gates putting up some really big numbers on a weekly basis and actually deciding some outcomes for some NFFC teams. Yes, at times it can still be a wasted position on your team, but for those owners who have found the diamonds in the rough, they are benefitting in a big way.

This is a long-standing argument in fantasy football, but for leagues that have already expanded the wide receiver starting positions and even added Flex positions, this is a no-brainer. The tight end position needs to stay and the fact that some teams are starting two tight ends in a week, using the Flex position to their advantage, is proof enough that there are good tight ends still left in fantasy football.

This argument has been made for years against two catchers in Rotisserie baseball, too, but every year some team benefits from finding an unknown catcher who produces in a big way. Leagues with deep rosters and deep starting positions reward those owners who do their homework before Draft Day and during the season. I only wish I had Antonio Gates in more of my leagues.

Good post and good debate, and congratulations to all those teams who are benefitting by picking up quality TEs late in the NFFC drafts.

Walla...I lost Heap and am currently starting..gulp..Doug Jolley. I'm not complaining one bit. It's all part of the game, so there's no use bitching about it, because it is what it is. Look at some of the running backs that people are forced to start on bye weeks, and the FA dollars that are flying around on RBBC's and backups. A tight end is a position in football and fantasy lineups should include one. One aspect I WOULD like to see changed is not having the option of starting a "run and shoot" offense, with one RB and 4 WR. This option would provide more balance in the league, and eliminate the ridiculous runs on RB's in the early rounds. I just think that it would add a fresh drafting strategy to the contest, and the best players will go in the proper sequence. Just one man's opinion. By the way, Walla..Courtney Anderson is probably available in your league.

[/QUOTE]Nag, if you keep saying that there is an advantage to well prepared owner, then that will certainly garner support to get rid of the TE position Some people like to handicap the prepared.
