A couple of problems with the idea in a contest like this.
It gives an advantage to the person sitting by his computer all day and night when any breaking news hits. They get the player that had zero value until news came out. Ex - Matt Leinart trips over his dog on Saturday morning and if you hear it first you grab Warner who had very little value with Leinart healthy.
Couldn't this be considered a part of the "roster management" fun of the contest that so many people keep falling back upon?
Why would you ever bid on a bye week filler? No need to if you can just go pick someone up FCFS. It cheapens the bidding process.
Maybe you don't want to bid on someone because your bench is loaded and you don't want to have to drop a good player until you are certain there is a need?
What price do you pay? FAAB is limited for a reason. How do you determine the price if your not bidding against anyone?
This I would agree with.
Technical problems, whether real or not. "I swear I tried to put in a claim but couldn't get on." Who do you call at 2 AM when your internet is down and you want to make a claim? Should we have Greg and Tom going through several dozen emails looking at time stamps? Can't these same "technical problems" happen when making lineup changes at the last minute?
I'm just discussing, for discussion purposes.

thanks for the "input"
As I said in my final statement (I doubt you got that far)- I'm more interested to hear why this might not be a good idea, and why it hasn't been used to this point. THE PROBLEM IS TEXAS IS THAT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT COMMITMENTS AND WORK SCHEDULES. NOW IF WHATEVER TIME WAS DECIDED TO RE OPEN THE FREE AGENTS WOULD IT BE FAIR IF I HAVE A "JOB" TO BE AT AND ANOTHER PESRON COULD SIT BY THE COMPUTER AND PICK UP FA'S. I THINK THAT IS A MAJOR DRAW BACK.
Well, if that's the case, then isn't it unfair to allow lineup changes up until 5 minutes before kickoff for the very same reason?!
GOOD POINT RUSS. HOWEVER BEFORE JOINING IN THE LEAGUE AND PONYING UP $1300 YOU ARE AWARE OF THAT AND WOULD MAKE THE NECESSARY ARRANGMENTS TO HAVE YOUR ROSTER SET. ALSO I THINK 4D BROUGHT UP SOME GOOD POINTS TOO.
Just like you could supposedly make the same arrangements in a FCFS FA environment.

(and fun to do to someone! )
Also...you can bid $1000 on the first strong FA to emerge with no remorse, knowing you'll be able to field a "live body" roster every week without problem using the FCFS system.

I'm just discussing, for discussion purposes. [/QB]
Sure, but there is a way to get your lineup in with phone/email support. And that affects just the team in question. It doesn't bring two or more teams into dispute over who was first. Multiplied over how many leagues? It would seem to me that it adds potential problems unnecessarily.
FCFS is fine for a local league, not a national contest. Plus, I can hear it now - did you see who team X got in FCFS waivers because the rest of the league was too stupid to bid on him?

Some very good reasons already mentioned. Bottom line: first-come-first-served is for the birds.
