Greg & Tom. I just wanted to let you guys know that the Elias Sports Bureau (official stats of the NFL) changed the scoring (statistics) on that Donavan McNabb - Reggie Brown - Correll Buckhalter play.
It has now been ruled a 55 yard pass play McNabb to Buckhalter as they ruled Brown never had possession. Obviously, McNabb's stats improve and Brown is credited with less yards and one less reception.
I'm not sure what your policy is in making changes, if any, or what you use for your official stats but I at least wanted to alert you to the change. Thanks. We have contacted STATS to make this scoring change as the NFL made this official yesterday. On a scoring play such as this, it's apparent that most stat services and games across the country are making this change and we just had to officially make it with STATS as well. All three players will be affected in the scoring change, but officially that's what the NFL did as well. We have to follow suit as well to coincide with the players' actual stats.
You'd think the NFL would know how this play should be scored by now. It happened years ago with Randy Moss lateraling to Moe Williams (or the Burger King as it is now) and that had to be rescored. Interestingly, the Greg Jennings lateral to Donald Driver on Sunday in Minnesota was scored correctly by the NFL right away and didn't need to be changed later.
Good luck everyone. Look for the scoring change soon.
