So is the rule solely because of LT2? No.
But would we be using 3RR in the NFFC had it not been for Tomlinson's 2006? While the answer is not definitely no, it would have taken MUCH, MUCH more to convince everyone it was a viable idea. I agree with the first part of this ... but 3RR was brought up and discussed on this message board in 2004. I agree having 3 standout RB's in 2006 helped bring the masses along ... but (like you stated) it has always been needed and was a matter of time before someone like Greg recognized it and implemented it in a major contest.

3RR is here to stay. It makes the NFFC "unique". That said, without a sure-fire, everyone "craves" and "must have" group of 3 or so first few picks, the "need" for 3RR seems to lose some luster. Todd is correct, it does level the playing field, but only after the fact, when the season is over and the top 3 players stand alone. If you don't "know" in anvance who they will be, then 3RR somewhat hurts the early draft positions. That's why 3RR & KDS, coupled together, makes the NFFC the fairest game around.

Pete I agree.
Statistically speaking ... the top pick will normally be slightly better than latter picks
... but depending on how you project the top players ... latter picks could be better to an individual (or even the masses) in any given year where the top picks are unclear. This is why KDS makes the NFFC even more attractive to players who want some control over their picks.

The "need" for 3RR has always been there.

Could not agree more. There always will be a premium in value at the top of the draft. There was a time that many thought a basic snake draft was enough to even that out. We have had enough of a sample to see to make it truly fair more had to be done. Hence 3RR. Over the years the names taken at the top will change but their value is still there. You are 100% right that LT contributed to this concept (3RR) being pushed from being a concept to a major innovative rule change for the NFFC. While LT alone is not the reason for it.. His epic seasons surely contributed.
