A very slow 2009 draft

Post by Coltsfan » Fri Jan 30, 2009 11:32 am

It's time for some analysis. This is kind of like Ryan Leaf telling Peyton Manning how to play QB but I'm going to give it a shot anyways.

Leroy's Aces - MJD, Pierre Thomas

Dave just dares to be different. I had MJD at number 5 and thought I was being aggressive with that ranking but Dave took him to a whole other level. The more I thought about it the more I liked it. I was hoping to steal Pierre much later. So much for him being a sleeper.

Hammerheads - AP, Welker

AP is the most talented RB in the NFL - enough said. Welker didn't miss a beat without Brady. The only downside of Welker is his lack of scoring. In a DC it would be nice if he got his production a little less consistently if that makes any sense.

Jersey Yo - Forte, Brees

Definitely good values on both of those picks. No downside, you know what you're getting.

Ormond - Westbrook, LT

Rumor has it that Ormond is considering the Rice/Montana hook up for his next 2 picks. :D If those 2 guys can get another good year out of their aging bodies then Ormond will be tough to beat.

Kapefear - Fitz, Boldin

Jeff is all about Arizona this next year. Fitz going 5th was probably the first surprise of the draft. If Fitz plays next year like he has in the playoffs then he will definitely be worthy of the early pick.

Billywaz - Gore, Steve Smith

Gore went a little earlier than I thought he might but he is a solid pick. Steve Smith is a great value this late.

Route C - Williams, Jennings

Deangelo has some risk but wasn't he the number 1 RB last year????? Jennings is a safe pick and should have solid production again next year.

Raiders - Andre Johnson, Marshawn Lynch

Andre is the beast! I've always liked this guy. Lynch is a safe pick. I don't see a lot of upside or downside with this guy.

Coltsfan - SJax, Barber

Our own teams always look good since we always get players at bargains as compared to our rankings but SJAX at 9 is a bargain and Barber in the middle of the second is a play to win pick. I wanted to go WR but couldn't pass on a potential top 5 RB in the middle of the second.

Liquid Hippos - Turner, Jacobs

Turner was a steal at 10th. Jacobs is a play to win pick. If he is healthy this year he will put up top 10 if not top 5 production at RB. He might have been a bit of a reach but definitely has the talent to produce.

Follow Me - Moss, Colston

A very aggressive pick with Moss in the first round. Definitely playing to win. I love the Colston pick. The problem (as I see it) with WR/WR this early in the year is that there are so many backfields that have questions marks so it's entirely possible you end up with only 1 starting RB or even Zero starting RB's if you get unlucky with later picks.

Rob - Slaton, Marshall

Who can critique the $100,000 man? I had Slaton bottom of the first and I still love Marshall so it's a solid start.

Hammer - Wayne, White

I thought Wayne was a reach here but that's only based on last years production. As a true Coltsfan I hope he goes for 135 and 1800 with 26 TD's this next year. White is a stud and should only get back with another year with Ryan at QB.

Sabretooth - Calvin and Chris

Chris is under the impression that 2 Johnsons are better than 1. Calvin is entering his 3rd year and apparently it doesn't matter who throws him the ball - he will be the best fantasy WR sometime in the next few years. Chris just needs the goal line carries and he will have huge fantasy production.

This is it! The worthless opinions of the uneducated. The funny thing is that each year (and I'm guilty) we critique everyone's picks while praising other picks and at the end of the day half of the first round picks will perform and half will not. Who had Deangelo Williams and Matt Forte as two of the top RB's this last year? At the end of the day this is all just conjecture and by the time the draft rolls around the first round will be almost scripted.

What I like most about this draft is that there are no rankings and I would venture to say that this is THE first FF draft for 2009. We are the trendsetters. And the best thing is that we can all work on ranking the next 4 rounds for another month and do this again. Great idea Jeff! This needs to be an annual event.

Wayne, my theory was to grab the BEST value at the position, instead of stuffing a RB..I firmly believe IF Arizona wins on Sunday that A.Boldin will be catching the pigskin for Eli..If not then I was Wrong, but remeber this is a D.C. and 1 does well and the other does better the next week, but when they put up 41 against Detriot or St Louis the sounds of FOXWOOD and the slot machines will sound GREAT..Great Job

Nice break down Wayne.

P.Thomas to me is the surprise of the first two rounds. Loved Drew pick.

Billy after two rounds I think did the best. But what do I know. Worst the guy that played it safe at 2.07.

Nicely done Wayne.

I wanted Brees or Welker but have settled for Bowe.

Lots of targets and a stud in the making on a team that will have to pass.

One of the reasons I felt confident going WR/WR to start the draft was I "knew" P. Thomas would be here for me at the 3.4 pick. Oops!

Witten was my next hope.

Well, since the ship has already sailed, I'll keep rowing towards the iceberg with T. J. Houshmandzadeh and hope he ends up in a good place.

And yes, I had to look up how to spell that.

The only team in NFFC Main Event history to win 11 games and not cash. :(

1683.8 pts. in 2009 is the record for a team with just 2 wins. Old record - 1479.95

Hey Mark, if the pick fails I can honestly say that T.J. "Whose Your Mama" was the ALLTIME best fantasy football commercial.....Nice Pick
