Renman, how much have you actually watched L.T. play this season and last?
I'm a Chagers fan with the Ticket, so I've watched L.T. play basically every game for a few years now....heck, I became a fan of him when I watched him play at TCU.
He no longer has the lateral movement that made him so dangerous. It was evident last season when he was unable to get around the corner OR make people miss. There were many runs last season when the younger L.T. would've busted off a long gain, instead, he barely gained a few yards.
He can no longer move sideways the way he once did. If you cannot make people miss in the NFL, you will not be a good running back. This is why I was so down on Darren McFadden, the guy cannot elude one single tackler in open field....(I'm still dumbfounded by the love DMC received this year and last)
Anyways, it is sad for me to see it, but L.T. no longer has the skills he once possessed that made him the best back in the league. The grass blades have tackled him more than once this season(like McFadden) and he lacks the speed he once had even if he makes it through the hole.
I agree he will "do some things" once he gets back into the flow of playing, but to think he's still a top 5, even top 10 back the rest of the season is ludicrous....and to think Darren Sproles is a "carry the load" back is even more crazy.
He's not overly talented, but the Bolts made a mistake when they waived Gartrell. I watched him a few times at CSU and he's a decent back, provided there's a good line in front of him. It wouldn't surprise me to see him have fantasy value running behind the Giants line. God,
You are making my point for me in this post. There is no question that Sproles is not a feature back. There is no question that Bennett is not a feature back. The Chargers are a WIN NOW team in a WIN NOW league. I have personally watched LT just as much as any typical fan has. I am smart enough to understand that we typical fans do not have the wealth of information to evaluate NFL talent that NFL talent evaluation experts have.
Obviously LT isn't the RB he was when he was 24. He doesn't have to be to be productive. He doesn't have to be to be productive enough in TODAYS FANTASY WORLD where so few RB's are the feature back and get goaline opportunities. I have said this 9 times and this will be the 10th and final time. I only debate this issue because so many people are touting "hey everyone!!! look how right I was about LT!!! i passed on LT because I think he is done and now look what has happened through the first month of the season!!! i was right! I was right!" in their posts.
To me that rings hollow and reeks of monday morning quarterbacking when what has lead to his lack of production through one month is a sprained ankle that could happen to ANY NFL RB AT ANY AGE and a broken down injured offensive line that could happen to ANY RB AT ANY AGE. Has he lost a step? Sure, he had lost a step as compared to his early 20's by 2007 (as season he was still dominant in). Curtis Martin had lost many steps when he helped lead me to a league title in year one of the NFFC in 2004. Randy Moss has lost a step, maybe two. Yet can still be explosive. Donald Driver has lost steps. I am fully aware that RB's can hit the wall fast. I think LT spoiled us with insane production for years and made it look easy. So now that it might be a little harder and the production not quite as insane (assuming he is healthy) we assume he is "done" when maybe he just slowed a bit but has slowed to simply "one of the top producing backs" as opposed to "the most productive back BY FAR, so much so we created a 3RR rule partially because of his dominant seasons.."
With the lack of mid to early 20something RB's providing huge, consistent, dependable production I will take a healthy LT anytime in todays fantasy world. Lets see what happens through weeks 6-16.
I believe he has enough left to be a solid scoring RB from weeks 6 through 16. Time will tell if I am right or not.
Red Ryder,
I have talked repeatedly about his offensive line breaking down and how that contributes to lack of production. Other people seem to find it easier to just blanket judge LT and say he is done without looking at the bigger picture. You are 100% right.

OK What did You miss on or mess up on?
No question the offensive line injuries - especially Hardwick's - has been an issue. However, LT has shown signs of decline late in each of the past two seasons. I think more of what we're seeing is on him as opposed to the injuries up front.

Quahogs,
Your stuff makes me laugh...lol I wish you did more of that. Though my season is hardly in the toilet and if LT comes back and is productive after his bye (like I expect him to be) my season will get progressively better.
This isn't me whining about LT as I am 3-1 and 4-0 in the two high stakes events I own him in and he obviously has provided zero through 4 weeks. This is about how I don't believe the guy is "done" and how I laugh at some who use his sprained ankle in week one as a sign they were right that he is done. If that is true and how we evaluate then Frank Gore and Felix Jones are done.
The guy was nicked up last year and still produced top ten numbers. Lets let him play a few games before we judge how done he is. I ABSOLUTELY respect the opinions of those (like Tom) who believe he is done. I just don't think it makes sense to use someone rolling up on his ankle in week one as proof of being right.
Tom,
Sproles is averaging 2.4 yards per rush behind that offensive line. Bennett is averaging 2.9. In an offense that has a great passing game that defenses have to honor. That is something to think about.
Even if LT is less of what he used to be (and of course that is the case), I believe it can still be enough to produce at a valueable level given how few steady dependable RB's there are in the league now. I guess weeks 6-16 will answer the question...

OK What did You miss on or mess up on?
I agree the offensive line is a problem and said so above. That said, I think LT has been showing signs of decline each of the past two seasons. He looks done to me right now. I see a guy who is a shell of himself. Maybe all he needs is the bye week to get back on track. We'll see. But right now, my only hope for LT (and I have him in one league) is that he can be a decent RB3. I do not believe he can consistently be anything better than that at this point.

It's not an ankle. It's him.
Paramedics have used defibrulators for the first five weeks, now he goes on life support starting week six.
Do what's best for the man, his family, and your team. Remember him as he used to be, the best damn running back in the NFL. I'll remember him that way. I know it's tough to pull the plug on someone that was so vibrant, so dominant. Just let him go, man. Just let him go.
