NFFC Trendsetters League: Setting The Trend

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Apr 23, 2010 3:55 am

Another Top 4 pick last year, Matt Forte, slipped to 2.13 in the Trendsetters League. Chris Gillman took him to team him with Ray Rice and had this to say:

"I did not plan to start out with 2 RB's. But Forte was the best player there. I like him a lot this year with Martz calling the shots. This gives me 2 pass catching RB's in my backfield."

That's it for Round 2. Third Round Reversal is up next.

Okay, all NFFC leagues use Third Round Reversal, which starts the third round back at the bottom of the draft. Since everyone got to rank their draft preferences, some folks actually wanted to be at the bottom of the draft order thanks to 3RR. Let's go back down to 14 and see what the Third Round produced:

Third Round
29. Peyton Manning (Team 14, Mark Moyer)
30. Pierre Thomas (Team 13)
31. Joseph Addai
32. Dallas Clark
33. Ryan Grant
34. Phillip Rivers
35. Dwayne Bowe
36. Shonn Greene
37. Santonio Holmes
38. Tom Brady
39. Chad Johnson
40. Jonathon Stewart
41. Anquan Boldin
42. Cedric Benson

NFFC Trendsetters League: Setting The Trend

My team after 20 rounds:

QB-Palmer,Cassel

RB-Peterson,Stewart,Choice,Hamilton

WR-S.Smith,Ward,Welker,Edelman,Andre Caldwell,Crayton,Kelly

TE-Shiancoe,Boss

DEF-Denver,Atlanta

K-Hartley and Lindell

***** Rookie #5-Could go WR,RB,QB and even TE.

KDS went 1,2,3. Wanted C.Johnson or Peterson. Had pick 1.03 picked Peterson.
My plan was to draft QB and TE later than most. Target Palmer and Shiancoe. Got both Palmer at 7.12 and Shiancoe at 8.03.
Another plan I had was to take Welker and Edelman. IF Welker was there at 5.12, he was. I than took Edelman at 6.03.

My sleepers were A.Caldwell(15.12)-hurt alittle by Cinn. drafting J. Gresham.
M.Kelly(20.03) and L.Hamilton(19.12).

I like my team missed on some picks. Great knowledgeable group of drafters, it's been alot of Fun.

John

I like my team EXCEPT my QB's. ;)

I love my core of RB's,

[/QUOTE]A little, but the chance of Lynch getting moved is probably more likely, which is why I took him (I didn't think he would do jack in Buffalo).

It seems like you are rooting for my team to fail, Riff! ;)

Call me tomorrow and tell me my dog died!

Let's look at the Third Round comments:

Mark Moyer led off at the 14th spot thanks to 3RR and grabbed Peyton Manning to go with Calvin Johnson and DeAngelo Williams. Here are Mark's thoughts on the QB pick:

"At the time of the draft ARI, BUF, CAR, CLE, OAK, SEA, STL, TEN, and WAS all had undecided QB situations and depending on what you read, DEN, JAX, KC, and PHI might, too. I usually pass on the stud QBs early in the draft and take two or three good QBs later. Last year I drafted Ben Roethlisberger and David Garrad in the 6th and 7th Rounds as QB #12 and QB #14 off of the board. However, with so many unsettled QB situations this year, I didn’t think that drafting two or three good QBs was an option, unless I spent both my 4.14 and 5.1 picks on QBs. There are so few settled situations this year, that I thought there would be a huge QB run in the 5th and 6th Rounds while everyone tried to guarantee that they get one or two of the few established QBs before they run out. If I knew that Eli Manning would make it back to me at 4.14, I would have taken Pierre Thomas or Ryan Grant here. However, if I hadn’t taken Peyton Manning at 3.1, Rob would have probably taken Eli Manning at 4.13, instead of waiting until 5.2, and then I would have had to take Donovan McNabb and hope he isn’t traded."

Rob Benetti grabbed Pierre Thomas next to go along with Reggie Wayne and Vincent Jackson. Here are his thoughts:

" * he was my upside pick. He was the back who I felt could be a fantasy difference maker if Bush leaves town. My hunch is that Bush goes to the highest bidder and even a 5% increase in production from Thomas over the course of a healthy season, could make him a top ten RB this year.

I went upside and drafted Pierre Thomas to go along with my WR duo. I now have three explosive and consistent players from three of the best O’s in the game. I am happy with my start."
