2005 NFFC Regular Season Facts

Okay, there's been a lot of talk on the boards about changing the NFFC playoff structure to make sure the best teams made the playoffs. It's very possible that we will tweak the playoff format and the league prize payout structure in 2005, but more on that later. For now, let's look at the 16 NFFC leagues and let the facts speak for themselves:

1) 11 of 16 NFFC League champions had the best record and the high point total.

2) 3 of the 16 NFFC League champions had the best record and the second highest point total. One of those teams was just 8 points behind the league leader.

3) 1 of the 16 NFFC League champions had the best record and the third highest point total.

4) 1 of the 16 NFFC League champions had the best record and the fourth highest point total. That team also won its last 12 games to finish 12-1, the best record in the NFFC.

5) All 6 New York NFFC Leagues had champions with the best record and the highest point total in their league. Three of the six leagues in Las Vegas ended that way and two of the four Chicago leagues ended that way.

6) 6 of the 16 NFFC Leagues had 2 or more teams tied for first place with best records. In New York League 5, FIVE teams tied for first place at 9-4. In New York League 3, FOUR teams tied for first place at 9-4. In Las Vegas 3 and 4, two teams tied at 10-3. In New York 4 and Las Vegas 2, two teams tied at 9-4. There were no ties for league titles in the four Chicago Leagues.

7) There were no undefeated teams in the NFFC. Team NEW won his first 12 games, but lost this week to finish 12-1 in Las Vegas 5. Team Cannataro lost its first game in Chicago League 4, but won its last 12 to finish 12-1. Six teams finished 11-2, including three in Chicago.

I know Gordon, you posted that already. If it makes you feel any better, Rick won yesterday to finish 3-10. He has a one-game winning streak going into next year. Bottom line is that he ran into a buzzsaw in LV 3 and you were part of it. He finished fifth in the league in total points, so he put together a competitive team and definitely wasn't as bad as his record indicates, but some years things go that way.

Rick and Gerald are probably stronger individuals after what they went through in the NFFC this year!

Greg, in all but two leagues, the Top 2 scoring teams made the playoffs. 30 out of 32 teams is pretty overwhelming. Give a couple of wild cards to the teams who had phenomenal seasons but wound up in ultra-tough leagues (#1/#8/#19 and #3/#4/#24) and I think we're in pretty good shape.

Rick and Gerald are probably stronger individuals after what they went through in the NFFC this year!We're probably stronger than we want to be as this had happened to us the last three years at the local level. Obviously we were hoping this trend wouldn't continue at the national level.

The great thing about this league, Greg, is that even though our record was going south, we hung in there because of the points and the consolation game. That was the selling point for us getting in besides the payouts. And playing against GG in three different leagues has been educational to say the least.

Another stat you may want to throw out though is the draft positions of those going to the championship as in LV3 it ended up being draft picks 13(GG) & 14(CC).

Rick won yesterday to finish 3-10. Don't make it sound so easy. The score was 183.65 to 158.7.

The final tally shows that 27 of the top 32 overall teams made the playoffs. The highest scoring team not to make the playoffs was Mullet Men of Las Vegas League 5 as he finished 8-5 with 1,789.60 points. Right behind in 20th place was Team Otis of Chicago League 4, which finished 6-7 with 1,789.05 points. They were the only two teams that finished in the top 10 percent of overall teams that didn't make the playoffs. Next year I may add wild card berths to teams that finish in the top 10 percent in total points overall.

Other teams that finished in the top 32 but who didn't make the playoffs included Doomsday Express (24th overall, LV5, 1,771.55), Steel City (25th, LV 3, 1,770.60) and Hobbits of the Leaderboard (29th, LV 1, 1,755.15).

Teams outside of the top 32 in total points who made the playoffs finished 38th, 39th, 41st, 49th and 50th. Only two of those teams (41st and 49th) advanced due to best record.
