Did The Redskins Pay Too Much To Get RGIII?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sun Mar 11, 2012 2:28 am

The reports this morning are that the Washington Redskins have given up three No. 1 picks and a 2nd round pick to obtain the No. 2 draft pick from St. Louis. That's a hefty price to pay, but is it too much?

Personally, I love what the Redskins are doing. This is a QB-driven league and you can't win without an elite quarterback. The Redskins haven't had a game-changer in decades and now RGIII can be the face of the franchise. He will be a SUPERSTAR in Washington D.C. This is a game-changer for the franchise and I think it's worth every pick they are giving up. You have to gamble in today's QB-driven league and this is a great move for a proud franchise that has become an after-thought in the NFC East.

The Rams get three No. 1's, but they moved down to No. 6 in this year's draft. That won't allow them to get Blackmon, a wideout they desperately need. Can they move back up far enough to get him? It will be interesting to see.

The NFL Draft just got a bit more interesting with this move. Luck to Indy and starting. RGIII to Washington and starting. How do you like the QB position now? And we don't even know where Peyton Manning is going to land yet. Should be fun.

Thoughts? Let's talk some football!!

I agree this is a great move for the Redskins. Franchise QB's only come along so often. I'm sure everybody will agree RGIII will be a game changer. I feel he will step in just as Cam Newton did last year and put some zest in the Redskins offense. The only question concerning RGIII, just as Tebow, he played from the shotgun most of the time at Baylor. He has to get under center with play/action to be successful in the NFL. One thing for sure, he will get his chance early.

I'm not sure RGIII will be there when the redskins get to pick.

I think both teams win Skins get a franchise qb and have plenty of cap room to give him some weapons, the Rams get a extra high picks that can fill many holes on the team and I think that Blackmon may still be on the board at #6 if Clevland take Tannehill.

Agreed. The 'Skins have enough cap room to be very active in free agency. They can still improve this team without a 2nd round pick this year and a 1st round pick next year. If the Rams can trade up to get Blackmon or if he falls to them, then they will have had a GREAT draft. They need a target like that for this offense to get going. All very interesting.

I'm sure the Browns will trade down on their 4th pick and allow the Rams or some other team to land the marquis players, while the Browns just **** away another year's draft!? :(

WTF's the point of sucking every single year if you're never going to take advantage of what it "earns" you in the draft?

Am I the only one that thinks RG3 will be a bust?

Seeing that the Redskins usually break the bank on players who are on the downside of their careers, at least this is a move in a different direction.

There are no guarantees in the NFL, but if Cam Newton can dominate during his rookie season I see no reason why this guy can't excel right away, too. He sure looks like the total package, but only time will tell. That's what makes all of this so much fun.
