H2H vs. Points - An Hour Before Kickoff

Post by Glenneration X » Sun Nov 08, 2009 4:49 am

For those who think Fantasy Football should be points only to take the "luck" factor out of the equation.....

I'm sitting here one hour before kickoff, checking the last minute news on questionable players, totally stoked that kickoff's in an hour.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's anxiously waiting for the games to start so I can see how I do in my HEAD TO HEAD MATCHUPS throughout the day. It's exciting. It feels like competition. I seriously doubt I'd be as excited if all I'd be doing is checking if I'm moving up or down in my points standings.
As a matter of fact, I'm in several points based leagues (whether one of my local leagues or the several DC's I'm in). I probably won't even check those results until Tuesday.

To me, you have to have a head to head component to keep the excitement of this game. I think the fact that the top point scorer is always rewarded at the end of the season makes up for the "skills vs. luck" argument. If you didn't come in first or second in points, what's your gripe anyways?

If anyone says they'd be as excited about Sundays without head to head....they're lying.

Glenn

Mark, you my friend may be the one person that I believe could be the exception to the rule.

Glenn,

I could not agree with you more. The MY TEAM VS THEIR TEAM vibe is a huge part of fantasy football. There can even be some strategy involved if you have a receiver that is a questionable start but happen to be going against an opponent who starts the QB for that receiver.

I think most normal fantasy football players monitor their players AND their opponents. I think the small percentage who do not do this are those who play in a huge number of leagues. I think Gekko is (or was in the past) an example of someone like that. Some people play tons of leagues, set lineups, and check results later.

I play very few leagues, only a couple high stakes leagues, and enjoy the game day competition that comes with them.

My main event team is 4th in points in my league and dead last in record (2-6). I could care less who my opponent has this week as I am done in record. I have scored 56 points more than the 1st place team in my league who is 6-2. Thankfully, the NFFC uses total points for 2 of the 3 league playoff spots. I am very happy that the NFFC rewards points more than head to head, and due to my head to head no need for me to worry about opponent.
