Auction league - Playoff Seeding

Post by JerseyPaul » Tue Nov 23, 2004 8:39 am

The rules are a little ambiguous on the seeding of positions 3-6 for the Auction League Playoffs. Here's how I read the rules, please confirm or let us know if it is otherwise:

Seed 1: Division Winner with best record (pts tiebreaker)
Seed 2: Remaining Division Winner
Seed 3: Next best record (points tiebreaker)
Seed 4: 2nd place team in the other Division (pts tiebreaker)
Seed 5: Next best points
Seed 6: Next best points

Playoffs:

Round 1 (3 vs 6), (4 vs 5)
The highest seeded winning team in round 1 is seeded 3rd for round 2. The other winning team is seeded 4th. Round 1 losers win zero, nada, zilch

Round 2 (1 vs 4), (2 vs 3) Winners play for the gold in round 3.

Round 2 losers play for 3rd in round 3. Loser of this game wins zero, nada, zilch.

Okay, I'll try to explain it better. Division winners based on records (or points if there is a tie) get first round byes. That's easy enough.

Second place team in each division earn the third and fourth seeds. The team with the best record of those two teams is seeded third and the next team is seeded fourth. If they are tied in records, then total points determines that seeding.

The next best points regardless of division (four playoff teams can come from one division) earn the last two playoff berths and are seeded based on their total points. Lowest of the two would be seeded sixth.

Seed #1 plays the lowest seeded team remaining and Seed #2 plays the highest seeded team remaining. The winners of Week 15 meet in the Super Bowl during Week 16 and the losers compete in Week 16 for third place money.

Does that help?

Oh, that was your interpretation? Okay, I thought you copied them right off the Rules page. Good, I didn't think I wrote zero, nada, zilch in the rules. Now I feel better!

That's right and good luck.

That's cool... right now, I'm 8-3 with the 3rd best record between both divisions and the 6th highest point total and I wouldn't make the playoffs.

The playoff seeds in Las Vegas auction right now would be:

#1 Seed = Let's Go Chiefs (9-2, 1458 pts.)
#2 Seed = Midway Bolts (6-5, 1391 pts.)
#3 Seed = Lumpy's Losers (8-3, 1443 pts.)
#4 Seed = Big Mac Attack (6-5, 1325 pts.)
#5 Seed = Gigglin' Marlin (5-6, 1450 pts.)
#6 Seed = Follow Me (5-6, 1400 pts.)

Needs Some Help =
Dyv (8-3, 1360 pts.)
Mr. Bill & Sluggo (6-5, 1348 pts.)
Zefurs (4-7, 1328 pts.)

Funny note: If Gigglin' Marlin wins and Big Mac and Midway lose next week, Gigglin Marlin goes from 5th seed to 2nd seed

Gotta love this game

Dyv, yes it's possible that next year for the Auction Leagues we'll just go with one division, give the top two records the first-round byes and then allow the next four teams based on points into the playoffs. I don't see any problem with that.

It's bizarre that the two divisions have such different records when one division consists of the even-numbered picks from Draft Day and the other division consists of the odd-numbered picks from Draft Day. It's not like 1 through 7 in one division and 8 through 14 in another. Crazy, but you're right it's a crazy game and anything can happen this last week and anything can happen during the playoffs. You could be the top seed after the regular season, lose two playoff games and wind up with nothing. Anything can happen.

No sweat on this year -the rules are the rules and we all have 'em to deal with. Besides, if I win the next 2 weeks and score good points I'll probably end up getting into the mix. The onus is on me and every other team to MAKE the playoffs not fall into them. Just quirky stuff ya see sometimes !

JerseyPaul has the country wide Auction points lead yet is in a dog fight to get the 3rd seed for the league playoffs. Such are the vagaries of head to head contests. For me, however, the total point leagues (like DC and the Mid-Season Satellite) just don't have the same excitement as a h2h league.

I like h2h with a points backup. I also am really looking forward to the playoffs. I like more teams still in the running and a playoff...perhaps the Big Game should look at that.

Better Playoff Rules:

1 Division

1. Best record (pts tiebreaker)
2. next best points
3. Next best record ((pts tiebreaker)
4. Next best record ((pts tiebreaker)
5. next best points
6. next best points
