I think Eddie hit the nail on the head, leave everything as is and offer the Classic for 2 weekends and let's see what happens. I know I will be in for 2 Classic teams this coming year and I can see more folks looking at the better odds for $100k in the Classic and making the switch.

Ok thanks BWaz, I didn't realize it was broke. I had no idea actually. It is a little broke, but not so much that we need to take out the engine and replace it with a shitty one. We may be able to just change a tire, give it an oil change and a new battery.

But Greg and Tom if you guys are still making good enough money to make doing all this stuff worthwhile and enjoyable for you, then don't knock it down to 50 or 75K just yet. All our leagues with our buddies are 12 team leagues. It makes the 14 team league a MUCH greater thrill to win. The teams are so much thinner when you have to start a 3rd WR AND a flex.

Tamuscarecrow, you nailed it. Maybe a few tweaks like that and an extra 100 each that goes to the league winner would be enough. Your message board post would be the best I've read all month if it wasn't for King of Queens follow-up post.

I am for a bigger 1st place league prize.

I am for a more balanced overall payout structure. Maybe I am in the minority, but I look more at what I can win with a finish somewhere in the Top 10 than what that ultimate marketing "carrot" is in the advertisement.

It is so top-loaded now that as it is if the carrot is what's important you could just as well award $100K to 1st place and no other spots, and then move all of the rest of the overall money into the league prizes. You could add $1K to league 1st place and still maintain the carrot.

And we're now talking about letting more wild cards into the championship round, so it will be even more of a 3-week crapshoot than it already is. Has the regular season points leader over 13 weeks ever won the grand prize? Can't remember.

I'd rather see the regular season points leader win $50K and the championship round the other $50K. The regular season leader has demonstrated fantasy FB dominance over a much longer period of time than the 3-week crapshoot champion. OK, that's kind of off-the-wall, but I'm an off-the-wall kind of guy.

PS -- I am also not a fan of drafting multiple "high stakes" (>$1K entry) leagues on different days or weekends competing for the same grand prize. Therefore, if that trend continues, I would just as soon ALL of the Classic prize money stay with the leagues, or at least with the 2 separate weekends, so everyone is competing with the same information for that money.

With it looking like a strong possibility of Wednesday-only FAAB all season AND some of my entry money competing against other teams that are drafting a week or more later, I'm getting a little less excited about the 2012 fantasy FB season. No tears yet, but I am definitely wearing a frown as I write this. :(

I think that is the point, Mike.....they ARE NOT making enough money at this to justify all their time involved (7 of 8 years it has not sold out), and there needs to be some decent size changes made in order for it to survive. So I think it just may need more than a tire, oil change, and new battery. ;)

Ultimately, Greg has to decide what is best for this contest, and go from there.

As a player I look at odds as well as costs. If I have to choose between paying someone $1400 with a 1 in 14 chance to win $5K or paying $1400 with a 1-12 chance to win $5.2K (as was the case this past season in the Classic vs. Primetime); I'm going to chose the later everytime.

Bump that 1-14 chance up to winning $6K and I have something to think about.

I'm really surprised that so many people are looking at the league payouts as the deciding factor on whether they play in the Classic or not.

Even if they bump up 1st place to $6000 that is still a very low payout % for the league (Which it's supposed to be because it's and "Overall" contest). The problem is that you are now dropping the 1st place prize to 75k or even 50k.

Like I said before I just assume play a $1000 sat or spend another 1k and join a Super with 1 and 14 odds of winning 20k.

My opinion is that the Overall contests are too top heavy and rather see 2nd - 5th bumped up for the Overall.

At the end of the day Greg has to do what makes sense financially for the NFFC
Winning isn't everything, but the will to win is.

After reading through all the posts on here I think everyone makes a very strong point for their reasons to want to do this or that or keep it the same.

I've been playing HSFF for 4-5 years now and to me the Classic is where it's at! When this thread started I was sure I was in the corner of the raise the league prizes even if it means lowering the grand prize. Now I'm not so sure. I also agree with Nelson and others that I would like to see 2nd-8th prizes be larger.

I like Quahogs idea of bumping the entry fee and putting it towards the league prizes. All that for a dinner at Applebee's!?! Greg, can you say sponsorship?!?

How about this...
Raise the entry fee to $1550...That's an extra $2100.00 per league.

Allocate $1,500 of this to league prizes...

Say
1st- $6,250
2nd- $2,750
3rd- $1,250

Put the other $600 ($12,000 based on 20 teams) towards bumping the 2nd-8th prizes

maybe
2nd-$20,000
3rd-$10,000
4th-$3,500
5th-8th $2,400

All this AND we could keep the $100,000 for first that I'm going to win next year!!!

i agree with Nelson. If you must reduce the Overall Champion's take from $100K to $50-75K, forget the leagues and throw it all in the Overall 2-10 prizes.

Let's face it, with a 280 player expectation for the Classic, only 60 players make the overall race. If you bulk up 2-10, that's a 1 in 6 shot at getting some real money for your efforts. Would anyone here rather have the extra $600 for winning your league or a 1 in 6 shot at really cashing? I'd have to believe noone here who makes the Overall doesn't think they won't finish in the top 10 of 60.

I can speak from very recent experience that there's way too much of a gap between the Overall winners in these national contests and those who finish slightly behind. I like the suggestion Nelson, nice job.
