Auction rules gotta change
I've discussed this with several owners over the years and enough is enough. The playoff qualification format definately needs a facelift.
We all agree that H2H can get really skewed with the randomness of scheduling etc...
so why do we award the last 2 spots to the best remaining records?
Honestly...if 6 teams make the playoffs shouldn't they be the best 6 teams?
Right now in my Chicago auction league I am 3rd in points..only 20 behind the leader. As H2H fate would have it I'm sitting on a 2-4 record.
The best record is currently 6th in total points. Because I'm currently 3rd in points I would be in the playoffs but check this out........ if the team 6 points behind me outscored me by 7 next week and the season was over...I'd be out of the playoffs.
Are you kidding me! I could be 27 points away from the most points in my league and still not be qualified as one of the top 6.
That's messed up. 2 teams with 100 points less than me would be in.
Here's my suggestion for next season.
Better:
1)Best record
2)Most points
3)Record
4)Record
5)Points
6)Points
It would be virtually impossible to miss the playoffs being top 4 in points under this format.
Best:
1)Record
2)Points
3)Points
4)Points
5)Points
6)Points
Never ever miss the playoffs being top 5 in points.
This happened to me last year in the auction being 5th in points and not making it. Had I got in I would've brought home 2nd place cash.
Greg...this reeeeeally bothers me but I presented it like a gentleman and would appreciate a response.
I think this will get alot of support....especially from those who believe points is a better indicator of team strength.
Thanks in advance to everyone who considers this idea.

No offense Jeff – But if a team can’t make it into the top 3 teams in points for a specific league, then maybe that team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs. In a H2H league setup, having the last two teams based on H2H record keeps more teams involved longer IMO.
Is my "weekend warrior" prep better than your prep?

Thanks for your honest opinion but it would suck to miss by 5 points and lose the last 2 spots to teams that you'd crush 99.9% of the time...especially if you're only 20 points away from being the best team in the league....did you read the 1st part of my post?

Auction rules gotta change
Jeff, we changed the auction league playoff format two years ago from the advice of our players. This was the format that many of our players asked for. Now if there's overwhelming support for total points for the last two teams, bring it on and we'll adjust where needed. And if you just want a total points league then show the support there, too. I'm all ears as you know.

This is just a thought but why not take the 650 auction and have a playoff system with an overall winner?
You could have the top team in record and the top team in points move on to the championship round with the top teams from the other leagues (along with those finishing in the top 10 in points) and have a 3 week playoff using the same format as the nffc. There could be a $5,000 overall prize and then we would have an overall auction nffc champion each year.
In fact, first place in each individual league could be determined exactly how it is in the nffc. This sure would make the auction event a lot more fun. The head to head finish to determine the winner just doesn't get it - at least for me. You pay all your money to see who gets lucky the last week or 2.
BTW - I do like Jeff's thoughts but I would also like to incorporate an overall championship into this format.

If you want H2H to be meaningful ... It needs to stay like it is. Why have a H2H league where teams don't make it based on record ... but based on points. (it would be like having a total points league and letting the last five teams in the playoffs based on record!)
If you want the best teams to win ... Get ride of H2H and replace with all play or total points and get ride of the playoffs (or at least shrink down the number of teams to 4)
An auction with total points and no playoffs is the answer IMHO.

[/QUOTE]The old method was your "better" ... but it basically eliminates H2H record from being a league factor for determining playoff teams. Again ... why have H2H if your not going to count it?

I'm assuming this is just your opinion unless a survey has been taken that I'm unaware of.
IMO there would be equal interest and involvement fighting for the last 2 spots based on points. Again that's just my opinion.
I'm not trying to slight those who want H2H qualifiers...just move them to the 3rd and 4th positions and moving points back to 5 and 6. I don't see this as an unfair change.
IMO if I have more points than a 7-6 team when I'm 6-7...I deserve the spot.

Mike you know where I'm going with this since you were in the boat with me last season.
