NY vs Chicago Grudge Match Update
Bubba, excellent take on the race but I will hold my take until the jockey assignments and post positions. Plus I haven't had a chance to get to Equibase to pull up any past performances but I'm about 80% sure I won't be betting on the Cal ponies. I did make my plane reservations today to fly to Baltimore for the Preakness and my annual trip to the Pimlico infield. Can't wait to harass the Eagles fans who chanted, "We got T.O." to the Ravens fans the last two years.

Thinking of that canoe "in the fox river canoe race last year". It was only two inches out of the water. Guess that's what happens when the canoe is max rated for 300 and a guy like me weighs 350 in the back. That picture is priceless! too much fun! I think I weigh more this year!

Last Derby post as I'm off to it in 7 hours!!
1) Brother Derek - I'm keying him in each slot with the rest of these in my trifecta ($42 x 3)and playing to beat him with some of my shots in the exacta. At least that's where I'm at right now. He is the best - but that doesn't always count with 20 in Kentucky. Can't play them all but can play a few of them with a key!
2) Point Determined - Smelling like a serious chance at the rose blanket with how the post draw worked for Baffert. He might be paying someone under the table to get his draws.
3) Bob and John - The weaker of the two - but I felt that way when Grindstone beat Editors note too. Besides, a BJ at "Stonerside Stable" will always be in my top tier!
4) Sweetnorthernsaint - Can't get past his dominance in his wins. Like that he got post 11 given that he picked 13th overall.
5) Barbaro - still scaring me - don't like his seasoning and think he'll fade - but confirmed best dosage on the track on Saturday so his breeding could hold. Not willing to take the chance without him on the tix.
6) A.P. Warrior - Loved his daddy who would have had the Derby @ 4-1+ without his scratch from the race day of. Came back to win Preak & Bel - one of the few who deserved 3crown (Point Given too). Nakatani is NOT a plus from my perspective otherwise I would have had him higher. Style is absolutely correct.
7) Cause to Believe - LOVE the price and feel the 1.25 suits him better than most. He'll need to have it open up a bit for him as he'll be 10-13 horses back on the back stretch - but could close for a small piece
8) Sharp Humor - lots of reasons to bump him off my tix (early speed fades, lack of seasoning) - and I just might - but solid run against Barbaro in his second race of the year (Fla Drby) still has me hanging. If you like Barbaro - you MUST like this horse. Is sandwiched between 4 that I like and in the bests of spots (7-11) - so those 5 can possible control the flow.
Still leaving some quality on the bench, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I usually like to find 6 - but stuck at 8 so far. Leaving Jezil off the tix is killing me as he had the best late run of ALL horses here in the Wood - but manuvering through 18 ponies is just too much. Also leaving the 7-7 dirty LawRon may bite me, but I'll take my chances.
GOOD LUCK to YOU on Saturday. I'll lift a julip for ya!

Just in case you ask - Where did Bluegrass Cat and Showing Up go since I originally posted them? Johnny V. absence and poor works take Bluegrass out. Showing Up with "puncture wound" from Lexington and short seasoning removed him.

Bubba, here is my 6-horse box for the Derby:
SPEED: Sweetnorthernsaint, Barbaro, and Keyed Entry
MID-PACK: Lawyer Ron
CLOSERS: Jazil and Steppenwolfer
As you can tell from my selections, no respect for the CA horses. We'll see come Saturday.

Johnny V. absence and poor works take Bluegrass out.Must be an A.I. disciple as his bad practice habits unfortunately did not translate into a bad race as he screwed up my exacta and trifecta cashes. Yes, I had Barbaro, Steppenwolfer, and Jezil and yes, I am pi**ed just as you must be, Bubba, for throwing him out. Imagine what Bluegrass Cat does with Johnny V up. I know I would have had the exacta, tri, and super.

TSCrow - Can't cash a ticket when you don't have the #2 horse. Damn Johnny V! I didn't like Steppenwolfer so would not have had the tri - but the exact would have been in hand. $587 is a great pay for that. Felt like I gave myself a fair shake with the work I put in, but not a single casher for Derby 3 years running. I had a decent up on the undercard so it's not as painful - had a nice hit with Tricky Trevor in the CD Handicap for Win & Exacta with a few other smaller hits.
Was hoping to fund a entry into the main event with Kentucky winnings - but jsut didn't happen this year

Since it seems as until Pre season starts, anyone who is participating in this event can post any thought on any subject, let me venture to NBA for a moment.
Reading that the Suns eliminated the Lakers today made my Sunday morning. May Kobe never see the finals again. My dislike for Shaq is up there, but not as much as my dislike for Kobe. For both of those guys to not understand that they can't win a championship without each other is childish and ignorant. But then again, talent and IQ don't always go hand in hand.
Okay, my hate-post is over.
