Lindy Hinkelman Wins 2nd NFBC Overall Title

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Sep 29, 2011 8:26 am

I know this is a football message board, but last night in the NFBC Lindy Hinkelman made history by winning his second overall title in the National Fantasy Baseball Championship. Lindy becomes the first player in high-stakes fantasy sports history to win a second national title in the same contest. Actually, he's the only person who has ever won two national contests. GREAT JOB LINDY!!!

Here's a link to the NFBC boards where this is being touted:

Lindy's margin of victory was 2.5 points among 3,900, edging KJ Duke for the overall title. Great job guys.

The entire industry received a very positive push today as our two-time NFBC overall champion Lindy Hinkelman was featured in today's New York Times. It's a great story about a great champion who won a great, great contest. Here's the online link to the story:

Nice story about Lindy. Nice photos of Lindy. Nice story for the NFBC. Nice story for the industry. This came together last week thanks to the hard work of writer Dan Fost and the timing was perfect because the New York Times was looking for a unique baseball story during the World Series. I think this is going to be good for everyone. Nice job Lindy with the quotes.

Are we all proud of Lindy yet? :D

After months of our industry dealing with all of the CRAP that the WCOFF spread on us, this is really a great story for our industry. It puts fantasy sports back in a good light and features a quality owner who won a reputable contest. I'm so glad we could get this story out and trust me there is more publicity to come from this as other outlets are already calling to reach Lindy.

I actually was surprised that nobody on our NFFC boards congratulated Lindy on this thread. Maybe it's because few owners here know Lindy. But imagine how much skill it takes to beat 389 other owners in a season long contest TWICE in three years. It's an incredible accomplishment, one that I certainly never thought would happen in our baseball contest. He led the NFBC Main Event for much of the last four months and to top it off he finished second overall in the Auction Championship. Lindy competed in 7 NFBC contests this year and won 4 league titles. Amazing work.

Lindy is now our NFBC Career Money Leader with over $360,000 in earnings since 2005. Kudos to him and for those of you who do know him don't be shy about giving him some pats on the back. He deserves them all.

Congrats to Lindy. Unbelievable season yet again. I have nothing but respect and admiration for anyone who can come even close to matching his achievements against the highest level of competition.

I'm also glad fantasy baseball is garnering interest from mainstream outlets such as the NY times..the more exposure, the better

Lindy has been featured by the New York Times and that story has been picked up by a large number of media outlets, including CNNSI.com and Yahoo Sports. He also was just featured on ESPN2's "Rome Is Burning" show. It was a great segment. We're a tad bit biased but it's great to see this story getting national attention. I think it reflects very well on our industry and shows that there are great games out there with great players doing great things and, of course, getting paid promptly for their hard-earned accomplishments.

And there could be even more to come. Stay tuned.

And there could be even more to come. Stay tuned. This was an AMAZING piece by Romie. He did his Final Burn today on Lindy Hinkelman, the incredible pig farmer from Idaho who uses his math skills to raise pigs and win in fantasy baseball. He called him the Hink Man and Hink, and had footage of his key picks like Curtis Granderson, Matt Kemp and Justin Verlander. It was informative, funny and very well done. Kudos to Rome.

He could have very easily made fun of our industry or what we do, but he didn't. He gave Lindy his props and made the fantasy sports industry sound pretty cool. Once again, this was good for Lindy, good for the NFBC/NFFC, good for STATS and good for our entire industry. Great exposure.

Hopefully we'll have one more surprise appearance by Lindy. Nothing definite yet, but you never know.
