Suggestion for next year...
This is not a h2h bash thread.
I like h2h. It rewards consistency and those teams should be rewarded. It does however prevent teams that truly deserve a shot at their league championship a shot at the 3-week playoff.
I propose that the H2H winner and the top two scoring teams in each league make the $100K dance next year.
If this winds up being THREE teams in a league, than so be it. Those three teams play Weeks 14-16 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd league prize.
So..
1) If H2H is pts winner, no change. They win league, but #2 pts makes the dance. no change.
2) If H2H winner is 2nd in pts, 1st in pts play in 3-wk playoff like now for league. No change. Both make dance. no change.
3) If H2H winner is 3rd or lower in league points, then H2H, 1st pts, 2nd pts, in 3-wk playoff for 1st, 2nd, 3rd league prizes. All 3 make the dance.
This would result in 51 teams right now, instead of 48.
Note that two of the five teams listed below already made the $100k final as WC's.
This isn't a major change from right now.
Here are the numbers to show why a change is needed:
The differences between the #1 and #2 scoring teams in these leagues were:
56.9, 2.65, 62.5, 16.65, 125.3
for a 52.8 average
4 of the 5 were 62.5 or less. 2 of the 5 less than 2 pts per week.
The differences between the #1 and H2H winner were:
152.75, 151.35, 207.2, 75.65, 152
for an average of 147.79 (11.4/wk)
The difference between #2pts and H2H winner is 95.85, 148.7, 143.7, 59, 26.7
for an average of 94.8
If these H2H winners can beat both #1/#2 in a 3-week playoff, my hats off to them. They deserve it. But now, they are more than 7 pts per week behind #2, and 11.4 behind #1.
LV1-
1)1781.35

I agree. Just want to add, it could happen that 4 teams could go from a league, small chance, but it could happen.
This would have added 18 more teams to the 48 count. But those 18 teams are strong teams.

I like it John.
I used to be against H2H (as points are ALWAYS the best barometer- fewer outside factors) but agree that H2H is needed, and makes your league (especially when friends are in it) much more fun.
That all being said, I do feel for the teams that were 2nd in their league in points, but were kept out of the championship round because the H2H winner was say 7th or worse in league points.
This idea does solve it all. The only problem I see John is that it may be a bit complicated. Not for me and most others here, but possibly for "new clientele".
Good stuff!

John John, none of those 18 would fit the 10% rule..
It would be very hard for 4 teams to be in Top 31 from one league. Maybe one league could do this every 3-4 years IMO.

Good stuff! It's not really.. It's just one more item than what is currently listed.
In the rules, the 3 scenarios I listed need to be broken up by a space and it would be easy to understand.
This is very fair to all and eliminates the #1 complaint IMO.

One League could have 4 teams going, but a long shot.

The idea that 5 of 22 #2 pts teams possibly don't make the $100K dance solely because of H2H just isn't right IMO. Two did make it on the 10% rule.
And worse is not any of the five have chance at the $5k league prize because of H2h winner.
I've been #1 pts in LV1 two years now as I write this, so no sour grapes at all.

Only three teams is H2H is 3rd or less in pts.

meanwhile John what happens to a team that finished 11-2 or 12-1 and is second in their league in H2H but third (or fourth) in total points.
The guys who wave the "points is the only baromoeter" are not only dissing the H2H aspect of the contest, they are ignoring that the Championship is ONLY points. Every tie-breaker is points.
The beauty of the NFFC is that it is both H2H and Points....but the pendulum is way out of balance.
I agree that if one team is best in H2H and points they should win the $5 K and move to the Championship Bracket. But we often see two teams tied (usually 10-3 or 9-4) and the team that is ahead on points wins the %5K. WHY? He wasn't clearly the best in both. Both teams should go on, but there should be a playoff for the extra money - the BOTH tied in on aspect.
Personally I would like to avoid teams like the one in YOUR league that deserved a better fate with a great H2H record getting Nothing. Not only should there be a playoff for 3rd place in each league where it is warranted, but in addition to the 10% exemption for teams with great point totals who make the Championship Bracket, there should be an exemption for teams that 75% or more of their league games, so teams that are 12-1, 11-2 or 10-3 might have access to that same 10% exemption - probably lets in another two teams per year, but the team that won 11 out of 13 weeks is just as deserving as a team that was 7-6 and had a few monster weeks sprinkled in and had more points than they did. Again for those of you screaming about rewarding some good H2H teams - THE FINAL STANDINGS ARE ONLY BASED ON POINTS, so none of the teams who can consistently out point teams in their league or the Championship field are hurt by a little more reward for teams that find ways to win the great majority of their games.

JohnZ - I think you have an excellent idea here.
A constant battle here is waged from those who want to stick with H2H rewards, even though H2H can sometimes reward those who benefit more from lucky match-ups than from drafting and rster management skills.
Your idea allows the excitement of the weekly H2H match-ups to exist, but still rewards those franchises who deserve a shot at the big prize.
Well thought out.
