Interesting info about Boldin. That surprises me that he was drafted even in a deep league because he was flying under the radar for the most part. Good call by those owners, though, that's for sure.

Was it luck or skill? Isn't that the eternal question for fantasy owners? Seriously, I think the best owners are the ones who have a healthy amount of both. The ones who drafted Boldin had a good reason to (unless they were simply going off a list of starting WRs and figured he was the only one left), but there was no way to predict what he was going to do last season -- and definitely no way to predict his Week 1 performance. So that is where the luck resides.

In my main league last year, I grabbed Rudi Johnson off waivers before he started going off. I'd like to believe whatever skill I possess helped point me in his direction and pick him up. But I'm not going to pretend I thought he would go off the way he did. To me, that was luck. Darn good luck to be sure but luck all the same.

I actually received an email from a friend 3 days before last year's WCOFF draft - pointing out that he had heard good things about this Boldin kid in Arizona, and I should consider him for a late round flier. I didn't... and I have yet to live it down. Was he 'right' ?

Hell yeah - and after each season we'll always be able to figure that out... lol.

One question: What about going with a 13 team league? We don't have divisions, so why are we always stuck on even numbers? Just a thought - perhaps there is something obvious that I'm missing.

I personally think that the 14 team league adds an element of skill since it will weigh the draft preperation much higher by thinning out the WW. I also like the fact that the extended season may help reduce teams backing into titles due to having received several gift wins due to playing teams whose owners have quit. 14 weeks should allow the true pros to rise to the top IMHO.

Just had to comment, Dyv.

I drafted RB, WR, WR, WR in the first four rounds last year in WCOFF. Won my league handily, and finished 5th overall. To be honest, I like it when minds get closed on RB/RB in the first two rounds. It only helps me get stronger elsewhere.

I wouldn't rule out picking a QB in the first round. With 6 points for throwing a TD instead of four it puts the top QB's on par with the top running backs.
