We didn't. It is clearly stated in our rules we have the authority to make this type of executive decision. The ruling we made falls exactly within the parameters written below:

"In the case of a “star” player being dropped in a league for a valid reason, the NFFC commissioner does reserve the right to allow the cut but keep the player out of that league's free agent listing for any length of time, possibly the entire season."

Good call. Dropping AP at this point is a crazy hasty decision, maybe they were team Radisson, team Pelosi, team Bud, and team Astia's Mom? NFL's decision making is dependent on how the wind blows and if it blows a certain way he'll be back in a few weeks potentially and putting him on a team that has the most $$ left over is silly.
Maybe, but chances are, someone in one of those four leagues wouldn't be waiting later to pick up AP. He'd be picked up next week, unless something happens over the next few days to indicate he's out for the year.

We appreciate all of the honest feedback on this subject and we'd expect nothing less than passionate, differing views. That's what this forum is for and it helps us make the contest better. We appreciate all responses on this matter.

In the 10 previous years of running this contest, I don't think we've ever taken a player out of the player pool in the NFFC (we did once in baseball), so this decision wasn't taken lightly. But our jobs as stewards of the national contests is to make sure it's a level playing field for all participants who are competing for these big prizes. The fact that he would be available in only four of 182 leagues with a grand prize of $100,000 at stake doesn't seem fair to us; it provides a very big luck factor. Luck that he was cut in your league. Luck that he could be reinstated sooner rather than later.

Yes, there is skill in evaluating his value at this point given all the knowledge we have now. But you need him available to make those tough decisions and as we've seen today not everyone will get that chance. In fact, very few will get that chance with 12 weeks of the season left. So if people want to cut him for moral reasons or to improve their teams, we certainly will allow that. But he's not going to be eligible to help other teams in those leagues. They will have to improve their teams without a first round pick available in Week 4.

Again, thanks for the feedback. It's all welcome and appreciated, but we certainly stand by our decision on AP.

Congrats on the correct call. The marketplace is too small to handle the imbalance which would occur if Peterson was allowed to be thrown back into the mix. As it looks now, it probably won't make a difference. But I think you got it right.

You 100% made the right decision, guys. People are forgetting this decision is made to protect balance amongst the national competition, not your individual league.

I would be pretty PO'ed if AP was dropped in a Primetime/Classic league I was not a part of, and it gave another owner two first round picks come playoff time. That gives the edge to that league only, where the other 11 owners could bid on him while the other 2000 people in a contest can't.

Exactly! This coming from a Peterson owner that is still holding him. When the bye weeks hit hard.... who knows.

My bad, that was a poor choice of words. I apologize. I wanted to say was you haven't done it before and i don't think you need to now. Haven't seen the rules where it said that but it is good to have that in there.

Hard to believe anyone would be against this. So you really want the $100,000 champion decided possibly by the guy who gets lucky and picks up AP off waivers wire ? Yep that sounds fun. He may not play again this year but if he does and someone picks him up that be pretty redonkulous.

Sorry guys, I just don't get it. If somebody drops someone in a situation like this, it's fair game. Nobody knows whats going to happen. The guys that keep him are taking just as much risk as the ones that may pick him up.

Not a super strong opinion on the matter, but lean towards the view that he should be allowed back into the pool as one major competitor handled it. The other agreed with NFFC I believe. Pretty much agree with what KJ laid out, but can understand the thought process at least on the other side.
