We appreciate all of the honest feedback on this subject and we'd expect nothing less than passionate, differing views. That's what this forum is for and it helps us make the contest better. We appreciate all responses on this matter.
In the 10 previous years of running this contest, I don't think we've ever taken a player out of the player pool in the NFFC (we did once in baseball), so this decision wasn't taken lightly. But our jobs as stewards of the national contests is to make sure it's a level playing field for all participants who are competing for these big prizes. The fact that he would be available in only four of 182 leagues with a grand prize of $100,000 at stake doesn't seem fair to us; it provides a very big luck factor. Luck that he was cut in your league. Luck that he could be reinstated sooner rather than later.
Yes, there is skill in evaluating his value at this point given all the knowledge we have now. But you need him available to make those tough decisions and as we've seen today not everyone will get that chance. In fact, very few will get that chance with 12 weeks of the season left. So if people want to cut him for moral reasons or to improve their teams, we certainly will allow that. But he's not going to be eligible to help other teams in those leagues. They will have to improve their teams without a first round pick available in Week 4.
Again, thanks for the feedback. It's all welcome and appreciated, but we certainly stand by our decision on AP.
